This incident reminds me a bit about the story of Evelyn Lau.
She was a straight A Chinese high school student in Vancouver who rebelled against her smothering, controlling parents by quitting school and becoming a hooker/ drug addict.
She later got herself straightened out and became a poet/ author.
She was featured 10 years ago in one of those Lunch with Jan Wong articles in the Globe and I think a movie was made of her life.
Interestingly her parents have refused to see her or acknowledge her in any way since she got out of being a teen hooker over 20 years ago.
She caused the family to lose face by becoming a hooker and openly talking about all aspects of her life.
