When we use to go to camp in the summers, I knew a very devoted priest. ( the are not all bad ) He would watch over the kids, especially near the water. He gave 200% of himself all the time. When it was time for his lunch, he would take 2 boiled eggs out of his pocket and eat it with a bit of salt folded into a piece of paper. He would take no more than 4 or 5 minutes, then it was back to watching the kids and a million other duties.

They sang about Vegemite in the song Land down under, I think Vegemite is sort of like marmite. I was told it was discarded yeast from beer making.

Being Chinese, I was the only minority in my school, no other races, just catholic white kids. Anyways, my parents would buy the bbq pork buns from the bakery when they were in Toronto and these are great, still enjoy eating them to this day. The pork inside is a very deep red colour because of the sauce they cook the pork in, anyways, I used to get picked on quite a bit when I brought these to school as you can imagine. They sure looked a lot different then a pb and j sandwich, that's for sure.

I had sangawichs, big Italian buns with lots of assorted cold cuts, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and peppers. My Mamma would pack 2 for me everyday. There was also lots of fruit.

In high school, I would sell them to the "caker" kids -LOL.

When I first got married, the wife (now ex), used to pack diced pineapple every day! :eyebrows:

well it's like vegemite (australia) it's like a yeast spread, has dehydrated vegetables in it, it's almost black, very thick, absolutely disgusting unless you were brought up on it as I was. I love it.
And you put that in your mouth??

Oh... wait...

Forget I said anything! :D

Actually 'mangia cakes' or 'mangia caka'. Cakers ate 'white food', and their sandwiches were made with white toast bread. We had papini or cuts of Calabrese bread loaves.

If you're of Italian descent, ever day was a great lunch day cuz of the variety. It's difficult to say what was my favourite sandwich but sure, peanut butter and jam, or nutella were 'treats' cuz those type of 'sangwiches' were not considered as 'serious food'. However, once my mama gave me a sandwich with rapini. A caker in elementary school didn't have the foggiest notion what I was eating. "Up you nose with a rubber hose" is what I would tell him (naw, just kidding).

A breakfast treat when I was a kid was to put oil on my toast. Today, you go to any fancy restaurant, and they will serve balsamic vinegar with olive oil with your bread. Or you might get toasted Calabrese bread slices sprinkled with olive oil and oregano.

Having said that, I LOVE 'caker' women.

P.S. Years later, I remember one guy got his friend a prosciutto sandwich with butter. The recipient freaked when he tasted the butter lol and said "Fuck, you know Italians don't put butter in their sandwiches". What one should do is put a little olive oil.

Different kind of sandwich every day with cookies or banana, apple, orange, or home baked goodies, and milk.

I packed my own sandwiches as a kid ;) I really enjoyed learning how to cook and prepare food (safely) at a very young age. I ate a variety of stuff though in my sandwiches (though my preference leaned to slice meats ~ turkey and such), I was never really a fussy eater :3

I am old. I know. But for some reason I remember a sandwich my mom made for me when I was going to elementary school in Ottawa. The same school Paul Anka went to, so rumor has it. This was before he recorded "Diana". For some reason I have this recurring memory of a cheese and tomato sandwich she packed. The whole thing turned into slime. I remember eating it in the frigid Ottawa cold. In the playground. I have no idea why I was eating it outside, but it is a recurring memory which pops up on a fairly regular basis, for no appropriate reason, other than I guess I am nearing the end, and my synapses are getting jumbled.
Why do you ask?
