You mean the "mange cakes"?
Actually 'mangia cakes' or 'mangia caka'. Cakers ate 'white food', and their sandwiches were made with white toast bread. We had papini or cuts of Calabrese bread loaves.
If you're of Italian descent, ever day was a great lunch day cuz of the variety. It's difficult to say what was my favourite sandwich but sure, peanut butter and jam, or nutella were 'treats' cuz those type of 'sangwiches' were not considered as 'serious food'. However, once my mama gave me a sandwich with rapini. A caker in elementary school didn't have the foggiest notion what I was eating. "Up you nose with a rubber hose" is what I would tell him (naw, just kidding).
A breakfast treat when I was a kid was to put oil on my toast. Today, you go to any fancy restaurant, and they will serve balsamic vinegar with olive oil with your bread. Or you might get toasted Calabrese bread slices sprinkled with olive oil and oregano.
Having said that, I LOVE 'caker' women.
P.S. Years later, I remember one guy got his friend a prosciutto sandwich with butter. The recipient freaked when he tasted the butter lol and said "Fuck, you know Italians don't put butter in their sandwiches". What one should do is put a little olive oil.
