As I said, I lived 2 blocks from the grade school when I was younger. I always had a hot meal, my mom would have it ready at the proper time when I got home. I did eat some junk food when I went to high school. There were several fast food places near by, Sometimes we would go over and eat at the tavern with the beer bellied geezers that drank beer all day there. Even though we were under aged, nobody said anything to us. We would have hamburger steaks slathered with fried onions. There was also a deli that made pizza to take out, they had pizza by the slice before that concept was popular.
