The MPAs who could make good use of ESL schooling are mostly Asian MPAs.
The Asian MPAs I got to know were pretty frugal and would only attend free
immigrant ESL classes but not those offered by community colleges which cost
money. Would be surprised if any of them would give up earning in exchange for

Could some of the SPs and clients that have bartered previously give examples of past tranactions? What would be considered an acceptable an equitable transaction? Would a SP waive the usual $300 hourly fee in exchange for a $220 car repair?

It's not unlike other offers of X for Y. Once I had an electronics device (no, not that kind). Said device had a street value of Y (but I got my hands on it for X). One of my fav SPs was looking for the same device. She valued it at its market value, since she couldn't get it for less. However, as in any negotiation there had to be a motivation for her to barter with me rather than pay retail. So we agreed on a trade of services (market value of Y - N) in lieu of cash in an amount somewhere between what I paid and what it was worth on the street. So I paid less than Y for services valued at Y, and she paid less than Y for a device valued at Y. Sorry, too mucy Big Bang Theory this weekend.

Saved me the hassle of trying to sell it, got her what she needed, and by god I had a couple of great hours of fun!

Of course I don't think this would work as well with a new client/SP relationship; likely need a foundation upon which to make the suggestion. That's what she said.

So interesting question, then - if you got $14k worth of furniture without it costing you a penny, does that mean that they worked for free so you could get free furtiture?

On a sidebar story to bartering. An old guy that I knew years ago told me about this drinking establishment in Toronto during WWII. It was for officers in the military and members of other federal organizations were allowed to drink at the bar and buy cigarettes and booze to take away. All the purchases were tax free and there was no profit made of the sale of booze and tobacco products because it was for military personnel. Many of the people allowed entry into this place bought booze and ciggys to barter with working girls. These items were in great demand due to shortages during the war. If the girls did not consume the products themselves the items could be used to barter at the grocery store for other items in short supply like milk, eggs and veggies. I do not know if this drinking establishment for military people was there before the war, but it as there during WWII and it lasted up to the 80s when the old guy told me this story.
