Is it true they portray Al Capone as a bumbling idiot/buffoon?

I haven't seen the show (yet).
I wouldn't go that far. He's young and up and coming in the time period of this show. So is Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky. They're being mentored by Arnold Rothstein and Capone is mentored by Johnny Torrio. I'd say he's a bit of a hot head but not an idiot/buffoon. Mickey Doyle is the buffoon

I didn't quite understand the decision to whack the kid in the finale.

I couldn't believe that they wacked Jimmy. I gotta think that they are somehow going to develop Jimmy's Mother into some kind of central character given the fact that they gave her a lot of color especially on the evil manipulator side. Maybe she starts manipulating Lucky, especially since she will effectively control the family fortune which Jimmy's son inherited.

that's a good guess
still I feel sorry for Jimmy. Sucks to get whacked, especially after you received an inheritance which would allow you to stop working.

On the other hand I always said that whoever has money to leave North America for better climate but does not do so, deserves all shit that comes to him

The death of Jimmy was the major chachter death I was expecting to have happen in Sons of Anarchy. It was definetly shocking the whole scene. The only thing that I thought was left unresolved is Jimmy's mother, I thought that she would be whacked for sure for what she did to him. Though Richard may end up picking up that task. Funny that just as Nucky celebrates being rid of his enemies, his own wife presents the biggest obstacle to total dominance over Atlantic City.

Next season I think will focus on Capone, who I thought like others seemed slow and uninteresting. Actually I read online that it will be focused a bit more on Capone and that since Van Alden has moved to Chicago where Capone sets up there should be some conflict there.

Season 3 should be interesting.

.... sorry to revive an old thread. STOP reading now if you don't want to know the twist to the Season 2 finale!

Is anyone else addicted to this series? I still am traumatized by Sunday's episode. Do you really think they killed off Jimmy?!?? They can't do that man - it's not cool =( I'm telling myself that there's gonna be some sort of twist - like it was a dream or something.... I can't let myself believe he's gone.

Any opinions? Argh! I dunno how I'm going to handle this stress until September :(

lol
What?? They killed of Jimmy?? NOOOOOooooooooooooooo!!!
Well, that sets up some good conflict for the next season, between the Commodore and Nucky.

Fantastic series!

I Love Kelly MacDonald
I would be thinking about giving her money for the driver and sending her on her way if I booked her (and she was not a celebrity)

As much as I loved Jimmy he got what he deserved for betraying Nucky. I agree the whole thing with his childhood was pretty crazy though, and would fuck the shit out his mother in a heartbeat. It must have been a crazy era to live in. I look forward to Season 3!

Sons of Anarchy take note...
That's how you do a season finale....

The writers of Boardwalk Empire have the fucking balls to kill of the second biggest character in the series...

As much as I hate to see Jimmy Darmody get killed off it did make sense for Nucky to kill Jimmy...
Jimmy had crossed the line and there was no going back..

As for Jimmy's mom, Gillian Darmody...there's no way she's gonna have an influential role like she did in Season 2....
Luicano (or anyone else) isn't gonna let her control him like she did Jimmy....At best she's gonna be a Hanger-on but her days are done....
I could see her being emotionally destroyed by the death of her son....though she still has her grandkid...

The Van Alden character looks like he's done....
Now that he is on the run he's just gonna fade away...it's not like he can go back to being an Agent for the US govt...but who knows?

I didn't mind the Capone character....
The writers made him out to be a young immmature street thug but he's slowly developing into a more mature and dangerous gangster (like Luciano and Lansky)....

I wonder what's gonna happen to Richard Harrow?
Now that's Dormady is dead? Is he gonna work for Nucky? Or is that it for him?

The Commodore is also dead?? NOOOOOooooooooooo!!!
Then I guess we'll see Jimmys wife and mom team up against Nucky (and maybe get together for some sweet girl/girl action)

It is the good old "too each their own said the old woman as she kissed the cow." She's a great actress and I suppose that is part of it.

... the tragic thing is - as much as Jimmy betrayed Nucky... he wasn't responsible for the attempt to kill him. It was his fucking brother man. Nucky trusted his brother. Jimmy saw the error in his ways... he was honest but Nucky believed his skuzzbag brother :( Poor Jimmy was just a little skrewy because of his skankbag of a mother.... he was a good guy - I'm so devestated man.... *tear*
