They just sent me an extra $68 bill saying I went over my bandwidth limit...

My monthly internet bill is $46.99 +HST for the 'Rogers Hi-Speed Express' service

so last month my bill came to ( $68 + 46.99 ) + HST

How much do you guys pay? am I being robbed here? Sorry I never once bothered to look at the bill which my bro usually takes care of but he's out of town right now and I'm fuming that they may be up to no good.

when I get to 75% of my bandwith a warning comes up on my computer. Another comes up at 100%. I've gone over only once and have high-speed lite, 3 cell phones, and the Hbo Canada bundle

I know there are a lot of Roger's haters but I'm very happy with their service. Give them a call - I've found their service reps go out of their way to get you a deal if you're polite to them.

yes, I've gotten such warnings too but it usually happens very close to the end of the billing date. There is no way I could have gone over the limit by 20+ GB in just a few days since I always draw back on any downloading. I may be wrong, but I don't think checking emails and basic surfing require too much bandwidth.

I'm just wary of them because they like to bill unsuspecting clients... My dad and my bro have been milked by them.

I also checked their website and it says $26.99 for their Hi-Speed Express internet, which is currently at a %50 discount for 6 months if you sign a 1-year contract term. I've been with these thieves for a long time and pay the full price of this internet package at $46.99... Anyone know if I could terminate my account and sign back again to be eligible for the %50 discount for 6 months (1 year contract)?

If you have a wireless router, perhaps someone is stealing your bandwidth?[/QUOTE

That is what I was thinking. You have to contact their customer retention to gain any real savings gemerally. It's very easy to save money if you are well spoken and persistent. Also, there are usually promos running. Curently, I have HBO and movie channels free for six months. I got extreme messaging 50% off for a year as well.

Call retentions and they might give you the 50% discount for a couple of months. They wont let you cancel and re sign up as you will not be a new customer, i think its a 6 month period from the last service delivery to qualify for new customer offers.

Best solution, loose Rogers for internet and go with Teksavvy. If you get the Teksavvy cable service it even goes over the same wires as Rogers, just Rogers dont get the chance to hose you every turn you make.....

look at your day-to-day usage. you'll see why. if you're downloading 60GB gets eaten up quick. however, their web site says that service has a max of $50 overage, so you should call after checking usage no matter what.

Threaten to cancel and you will get discounts, ranging from 20-30% off the bill plus modem rental waived with Rogers. You will have to negotiate though as they won't just hand it to you.

Or call up Bell. They're pushing their Fibe pretty hard these days and almost everyone is getting 50% for a 1 year with free modem, and if you ask they'll throw in bandwidth insurance (40 extra GBs) so pick a low or medium package (Fibe 6 = 25 GB, Fibe 12 = 50 GB) and with the extra 40 that's more than enough for most people. No contract either. And I find it faster and more reliable than Rogers.

I'd check your account, see the day-to-day usage and warning emails.
If you didn't receive a 'usage warning', you can probably get Rogers to delete the amount.

I can't understand why anyone would put up with that sort of bullshit. Is it really that humiliating to deal with Rogers? And people pay?

... the limit by 20+ GB...
300 GB a month with Teksavvy on the $32/ month plan, and they only count upload or download bandwidth, but not both. They also average your bandwidth over several consecutive months. I run bit torrents 24/7, uploading and downloading, and I've never even had a warning. You will probably get a faster maximum download speed with Rogers, but they will also throttle your upload bandwidth to next to nothing if you are using torrents or p2p apps.

I had a 60GB bandwidth limit a few years ago, which I never went over. Apparently they sent me a letter saying that everyone else was paying the same I was for only 25GB, and the only reason I was getting 60GB was that I signed up years before when their prices were lower. They also notified me that they were decreasing my allowance to 25GB starting the next month. Unfortunately, I didn't get that notice until after I had gone 25GB over that 25GB. Apparently others in the household ignored the warning messages. The bill was a little more than $100 that month. I switched to Bell the next month, which was really about the same price. I just didn't like how Rogers handled that, considering I had been with them for years.
