Poor kid!
Any parent on this board should watch, make sure you really know your child and how their life is, in their eyes. I can relate to showing others a fake, happy side and its something that can be carried on for years. talk to your children and make sure they truly are happy and are not being bullied or put down. And for any parents who contributes to the bullying of children, or anyone for that matter, may you rot in hell and may your children surpass all of your accomplishments in life leaving you to die poor and alone.

I may seem a little harsh in my last sentence but I am tired of seeing children cutting themselves, turning to drugs, or even worse ... suicide. More people need to be brave like this boy and spread a more positive message.

Can't everyone just get along?? We dont have to like everyone, just be kind for crying out loud.

and I never said I was against democracy....I accept that he won the election...but just as he decides that he is not beholden to the majority I am not beholden to support him or his brother.

It is democracy that gives me the right to speak out against retarded ideas like Doug Ford's of more teaching kids how to fight while on the same day the schools launch more anti-bullying campaigns.

personally experienced bullying as a kid... Trust me, the fear is downright crippling. Gave me a whole head of grey hair by the time I turned 30's. It might not seem like much to adults and viewed as just child's play but to the victim, it can effect them in whatever they do. Lucky that I did not experience this in kindergarten or during early developmental years but during grades 4 to 8.. it still affected me neverthless.

Well, I cried a little when I saw this. It's irrelevant to me whether or not the boy in the video is genuine. I think we can all agree that bullying is an important problem. I think we can all agree that we can all do more to prevent or at least mitigate bullying in the future. I hope that all of us takes steps to do our little part to bring a bit more peace to our world. The big picture issue here is the opportunity for this youtube video to positively affect, in a small way, the issue of bullying in our society.

This is not about politics and rules, Rob Ford or the Reform party. Everyone plays a role in bullying in their lifetime - either by helping, hurting, or just being neutral which in my opinion belongs in the same category of hurting. I know where I stand, how about you?

One final thought, since we are on an anonymous board where we've all seen some cyber-bullying, do we have to look much further for a place to change? Maybe the way we treat each other here, good or badly, extends out there in the real world.

As for how kids react, I'm not entirely sure that being suicidal is all that bad. I've been suicidal most of my life (age 12 to 30 or so). Heck, I didn't even know that having suicidal thoughts roughly once a week or at a minimum once a month wasn't normal. I turned out reasonably o.k. (other than hanging out here of course )

Isn't suicide a natural way to weed out the weak and sick? I'm not entirely sure that the world would have missed me if I had offed myself in the past. Sure, mom woulda cried, sister would be broken up and a few friends somewhat disturbed (and probably worst of all, the government would be out about $40K in income taxes a year), but they would have gone on.

I'm sure you bastards wouldn't have missed me. Perhaps we ought to rachet up the bullying at all levels of society to purge the weak.

I experienced some bullying. When it got real bad, I basically got my bigger cousin to beat up the bully (he only pushed him down to the ground, and his pants tore in half so you could see his underwear - poetic eh?). He never bothered me again (if I saw him, we'd probably have a beer and laugh about it). There were other older guys who toyed with me, but I was in their group. I was also bullied in high school but it wasn't that bad (they didn't want to do their homework, etc.). If I see these guys now, we'd laugh about it over a beer. Never did it get to the better of me. I basically had a lot of good friends.

Interesting. But I don't really care whether it was real or not. Anyone who went through school and didn't see anyone suffering from being bullied was being blind and probably contributing to it. Unfortunately, when we're kids we don't often have the strength of character to stand up for them, as we want to fit in with the popular kids, and not fall into that "lower" tier of social life and get bullied ourselves. I still know a few people who got bullied in public school, and it changes what kind of people they are.

K: He was actually my neighbour and friend for the first six years of public school, before I started hanging around with a different gang (aka, when girls started to matter to me lol). He wasn't attractive, he didn't play sports, he wasn't particularily bright, he wasn't cool. He was picked on since grade 4. He was an incredible friend, completely loyal, hardworking and always wanting to help out. I didn't bully him myself, but I did leave him by the wayside. He's a different person today. He's heavy into drugs and has been since grade 8. He works part-time, but also gets help from the government. The majority of his money goes to drugs, even though he owes just about everyone he knows money. He lives with his parents. He hid his depression well for years, but I hear he almost killed himself in grade 11. He has scars. Him I know the most about because my sister is still friends with his sister.

E: Teased and ignored since grade 2. I really don't think he had any friends at school. He wasn't very good at school either. He was an outgoing guy for the first couple years I knew him, but became closed off after repeated bullying. The last I heard about him was he was hard into some bad drugs, and often in and out of jail.

B: This girl was actually average in popularity until grade 7. But she was very late to puberty. The other girls teased her constantly about it and the boys began to ignore her, obviously being interested in the "new and improved" girls popping up around class. She lost all her friends in the two years remaining in public school. She attempted suicide. I can imagine what it's like to be atleast somewhat popular, and then slide like that. She found a new bunch of friends in high school...again, heavy into drugs. Her grades slipped and she dropped out. I have no idea what her life is like now.

Sorry for reminiscing, but can anyone say they haven't known a few people like that and wish they had done something about it?
