as far as i know, calling for back up is the first thing they tell you to do. i didn't read the story, will not read the story but i will tell you this, he was a shitty cop.
A bad day Simon?

Well, this shitty cop saved three people from burning building, I suspect they have a different opinion of the cop.

Really? What do they have to deal with that is so bad? Arrest jerks who put up no resistance because if they do they know they'll get the shit kicked out of them and the the book thrown at them. Or is it maybe they feel bad at the end of the day for handing out all those traffic tickets so that they meet their traffic ticket quota? Like blackrock says, I've never been on the front line, but from where I'm standing, it seems like an overpaid, cushy job that requires little education/training.
you go for a walk through a crack alley and try arrest a dude with aids that wants to spit on you cuz it's fun. someone wants to resist arrest and takes a swing and clips your jaw. not saying every night of their job is full of getting spit, shit pissed on and getting beat up, but they have enough of those nights that i don't mind them getting paid a decent wage.

Tell that to Sgt Ryan Russell and Garrett Styles families. Let's see if they agree with your assessment of it being a cushy job.

The private security at the TD centre haven't got the same powers of police. they have their limits and there are only 12/20 on duty at any given time. I don't know about the Transit Police as there have been recent changes but i think they are bylaw enforcement with limited responsibilities, not full fledge police although the CN/CP officers are a private police force.
So ZERO cops assigned specifically for the TD Centre, Commerce Court, and all the other private centers in Toronto. ZERO.
TPS Transit Patrol Unit are sworn members with powers to enforce the Criminal Code....i.e. powers granted to full-fledged cops. They are full fledged gravy-slopping cops.

How about the "Toronto has worse bad guys" than the surrounding regions agruement?

Bad boys, bad boys watcha gonna do.....
When T.O.'s gravy-stained cops come for you?

Burning buildings don't wait for anything. So we wait for back up and watch three people die. Good call.
okay, just go with me on this one. he doesn't call for back up and he runs in there, then something happens. then he dies and those 3 people died. not saying he should have waited, cool he saved the people. what happens though is he could run in there, everyone dies, including him. then you are in a whole other thread here defending him. then maybe he doesn't go in there and everyone in the building dies, then there is a whole other thread here and you are saying he was following procedure. shit guy. i don't even know you anymore.

You would never find a cop walking through a crack alley. They just wait inside warm cars and wait for a 911 call. If they see a dude with aids that want to spit at them, they just pull out their tazers and zap the motherfucker. If there are more of them, the riot squad with ETF show up. And then the paramedics show up to clean up the zombies/crack heads.

maybe in a perfect world. i have been in holding cells and drunks tanks watching guys take swings and spitting on them. being tossed in restraint chairs for fighting back. in your world, things don't go bad, in the real world though, shit is way different.

No actually there are cops assigned to the TD centre, 52 division. It's on a foot patrol route as well.

As far as the TTC; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TTC_Special_Constable_Services

On October 21, 2010 the Toronto Police Services Board voted in favor of the cancellation of the Special Constable program effective February 1, 2011. At the same time the Board approved the expansion of the Toronto Police Transit Patrol Unit. It is expected that the existing Special Constables will become security guards or bylaw enforcement officers, tasked primarily with fare evasion and by-law offenses.[SUP][4][/SUP]
[h=2][edit]Current Status[/h]The former Special Constables are now referred to as "Transit Enforcemet Officers" and are currently working in uniforms and plain clothes enforcing the Criminal Code of Canada, pursuant to Section 494 (commonly referred to as Citizen's arrest powers, as well as By-Law #1 and theTrespass to Property Act of Ontario. The new Transit Enforcement uniforms are idetical to the Special Constable uniforms except they say "Transit Enforcement Unit" instead of "Special Constable Service".

What did I say about real world? 'She'' ran in a saved 3 people. I suspect 'she' weighed the options and decided it was worth the risk and was right. Cops make those life and death decisions many times.

Once again, simon482 you are right. Things are different in the real world. But the reality is that there are good cops, and not so good cops. I've seen way too many bad cops in my life time, so I don't really care for them.

okay and what if she stayed on the street and kept people away from the building and those people died in the fire, then someone started a thread here about how she was a shithead for not going in. you would be screaming and crying that she was following protocol and shit.

A route is not a specific site assignment as your original post had suggested. Hell all divisions in all jurisdictions have routes thus negating your TD Centre(designated sites) agruement.

A bloated by 1900 sworn member police force now reduced by a 80 member Transit Patrol Unit still equals 1820 superfluous cops.

$200 million a year, every year, year after year wasted on gravy.
