Policing Metro Toronto is far more complex than policing a suburb like Peel or York Regional and requires more assets. Any fool would know that. It's apples and oranges. You simply are compare population and nothing else like size, or complexities like high rise offices and subway. Are there any in those areas that compare to the TD centre, 5 1/2 ares, 6 office towers and 10,000 occupants. I don't think so.

TPS Transit Patrol Unit - 80 sworn members(last reported)
TD Center - 0 sworn members .....60 private security officers

1900 excess police minus 80 sworn members of TPS TPU equals a bloated excess of 1820 gravy engorged swollen members.

What's in your wallet?

A crime committed unintentionally. Or crime committed intentionally. You decide.
If it's criminal charges and possible trail by jury, you find that they get found guilty less often because of jurors tendency to find cops guilty. Because of that tendency, the crown will often not take the case t9o court because if it being lees likely to to a conviction. This action or decision is not exclusive to police though, as many cases don't go to court because Crowns don't think the trial will lead to a conviction for a number of people, just like 80/90% of all cases are normally settled before trial.

Blackrock13 if you were a civilian, the legal system would be very harsh on you. But if you were a cop, hey you got buddies inside the force, and you might even know some people in IA that might let this incident slip by. And you get paid suspension. What more can you ask for.

The private security at the TD centre haven't got the same powers of police. they have their limits and there are only 12/20 on duty at any given time. I don't know about the Transit Police as there have been recent changes but i think they are bylaw enforcement with limited responsibilities, not full fledge police although the CN/CP officers are a private police force.

See, this is the problem with the cop (or first responder) culture in this city. People like you say, "if you've never been on the front line, then you have no right to express your opinion, or even if you do, it will be dismissed out of hand because you have no front line experience." So what happens? The only people that are put in positions of authority are those who once were on the front lines. That's why the SIU is made up of ex cops or those who are sympathetic to cops. So now, when a cop is investigated, it is by someone who came from where they are. That's why cops always walk. That's why Ford can't get his 10% cut. The system is stacked with people who have come from the police force. This type of nepotism leads to incompetence and corruption. You don't see this happen in the business world. In fact, you see businesses pay huge amounts of money to consultants that can bring fresh, unbiased perspectives to their organization. Maybe the TPS could learn something from this.
No one has said you haven't a right, but an informed opinion goes further in a discussion. Not many people on this BB take anything Pekkerhead says as worth much, not even comic relief, but he can say whatever he wants to and frequently does.

You don't see it in the business world? Try the Bar Association or the Judical or the college of Physician and Surgeons. Who do you think sits on boards overseeing the accountants and judges of this country, mechanics?

“front line in a war” What the hell is blackrock13 saying? Dealing with public civilian everyday is not considered a war. When a cop thinks he’s in trouble, what do you think he/she will do? Call back-up of course. Remember the time a cop was chasing a car on 401. And the people in the car that the cops were chasing were firing back with guns. The cop did not even call for back-up, they just turned yellow, and went back to the station to file report. The news did not even know what happened afterwards, and the cops did not even comment. If cops are paid to catch the bad guys, do so. And I know exactly what blackrock13 is going to write. “The public safety comes first”. But how do you justify letting loose a gang of thugs with guns who will kill many more later? So I blame cops for all the shooting that occur in the city of Toronto, because couple of chicken shit cops decided to let someone with guns go free.

A total disconnect. I guess this officer didn't get your memo about calling for back up.

Female cops fall under different category. They are not considered part of the "Brotherhood" so they get desk jobs. How many times do see 2 female cops in one car? Most of them end up as detectives, or SIU. And they follow by the books, so I have not heard anything bad about female cops.

i was at a softball game. it was our bar vs the other bar. not gonna say bar names so i don't give away the town they are in in case he is still working. anyway, we were drinking beers all fucking day, smoking joints, doing lines, all kinds of shit. then this one dude said he had to go to work. i started to laugh at him and make fun of him and shit, then he told me to shut up or he would pull me over and give me a ticket. found out he wasn't kidding, he really was a cop.

I had a couple of cops come up to me and my friends while we were smoking a joint at Ontario Place and do the same thing. Took our weed and gave us a warning.
A cop with honor and dignity would burn the weed infront of you and then give you a warning. Most cops are people just like you and me. When they see an opportunity, they take it and run with it. At the end of the day, they go home with a bonus weed, and a 6 figure salary. WTF

meh, i don't begrudge them a 6 figure salary. it's not an easy job and for every cop that has a good day, there is a cop that has a bad day. pretty sure any bad day for a cop is a million times worse than a bad day in an office. they got a lot of shit to deal with, let them have a good pay at least.

simon482, I think you are right. I don't want to keep bashing the boys in blue. However, I would like blackrock13 to join in.
