I think Bullitt helped sell a lot of Mustangs.

A couple of others I recall are the indoor mall car chase in Blues Brothers and one of the Dirty Harry's where he is chased by a remote controlled toy car.

Not exactly a chase scene, but Duel, with Dennis Weaver...one of George Lucas's first efforts. 90 minutes of road rage.

Most recently , Tarantino's "Death Proof", the girls getting revenge on Kurt Russell, and then beating the crap out of him when they catch him.

It was just soo over the top, lots of action, and comedy involved, different kinds of vehicles, different terrains, and that scene when they were driving 120 mph... that was not special effects
