How about a super soaker squirt gun full bleach? Shoot it in the intruders eyes and they won't be a problem. You might get an assualt charge, but good luck to him trying to pick you out of a lineup.

I predict you will ruin your carpet with this device many, many times before you face an actual home invasion.

Move your bed to a better neighborhood....

A cheaper alternative is a baseball bat and a whistle.

Nail Gun!
There's a problem with that. If the compressor is off it's useless as it won't fire. If the compressor is on then it's a deadly weapon.....the only problem is you won't get any sleep as that damn compressor kicks in every few minutes to pressurize the gun again, lol. No win situation.

Can we fleece a stun gun of a cop? BB gun? Cross bow? The legal ones, some are legal in Canada I hear.

A sharp eyed thief will notice your trigger lock, and the jig will be up.
Not everyone keeps a trigger lock on. Some people may even keep shells close by. Other individuals may even have an unregistered and loaded .410 just in case.
Always remember that it was the intruder's weapon, you tried take control of the gun and in the struggle it went off.

Next to a gun and a killer dog a Samurai Sword would do the trick. Even if they are armed with a knife they would not rush you since the sword covers alot of distance and even jus a graze will do damage. Those things cut some metals.
If they have a gun your fcukd tho.

So the intruders gun went off during a struggle but strangely the gun powder only hit your hands?

-Pardon my curiosity Mr. Tourist but when you grabbed for the gun, where abouts did you grab it?

Well officer my hands were right in the middle of the gun near that opening, sliding thingy. (the breach. That must be why the powder is on my hands.)

A baseball bat cut in half. Swing it one handed. Aim for centre of the face or shins.
The very under rated hammer. Though you will probably kill the intruder.
Best of all is the cell phone next to your bed, though.

YES! Hold the cell phone up to the intruders head until brain cancer sets in.

I'm not a detective but I'm guessing that you would be charged with giving a false statement and possibly manslaughter. The first item of business I would do is lift prints off the cartridges, check for any prints on the gun and obviously trace the gun. In general, pointing an unloaded firearm at a potentially armed intruder seems pretty dumb in my books.

My weapon of choice would be a cell phone with 911 preprogrammed. As soon as the attendant answers say 'Intruder at 123 Chickenshit Lane - send help!' and stay on the line. If you are paranoid enough to keep a gun under the bed -I'd suggest keeping a lock on your bedroom door instead. The indoor motion detector patio lights that you turned on when you went to bed has scared him enough - he's not going to stick around enough to breakdown the door.

The only difficulty with the above is that there are vast areas of the country where during significant portions of the day the nearest Constable is over 15 minutes away. Yet another example of the disconnect between major urban areas and the rest of Canada.

Use one of the butane compressorless models, but don't forget to defeat the safety that prevents firing if the nosepiece isn't pressed against the wood.

There is a problem with all the non-lethal weapons, the same problem the cops found when they first used those 'magic' TASERs™ and the baddie kept coming. Like Aardvark said [my paraphrase] first you decide you will shoot to stop him, and only then do you point the gun. So if you picked the paintball gun or the CO2 fire extinguisher as your weapon of choice, what is your Plan B, when he keeps coming?

I still say an escape tunnel, and a 911 call are your best bets.

Do the rural folks get home invaders a lot? I thought that the mystique was that it was all law-abiding good ol' boys out there with real Canadian values?

For that matter, when was the last home invasion in your neighbourhood, rural or urban? Nobody was taking this convo seriously were they? C'mon!
