What is perhaps the most galling thing about the Turks is their sanctimonious condemnation of Israel while they still will not acknowledge the Armenian genocide.

Absolutely, or their hypocritical attitude towards the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

Yup , looks like the list is a sham rotflol....

Turkish list of flotilla soldiers a sham?

Reports in Turkish media claimed IHH compiled list of 174 soldiers, security officials who took part in raid on Gaza-bound ship, but closer glance reveals that names were recycled from previous lists, belong to soldiers who already completed military service during 2010 naval operation
The Turkish media called a list of 174 names of soldier and security officials allegedly connected to the IDF raid on the Gaza-bound ship as "extremely valuable," but a deeper examination reveals that the IDF personnel appearing on the list have no direct link, if at all, to the flotilla raid.

The list is headed by former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, Navy Commander Eliezer Marom and former Commander of IDF Intelligence Branch Major General Amos Yadlin, but the rest of the names are of soldiers who already completed their military service at the time of the 2010 raid.

According to the report in Turkish media outlets, "almost all the soldiers who killed the nine activists and injured 30 people were identified," but the Turkish government denied ever asking its National Intelligence Organization (MIT) to confirm the identities of Israeli commandos involved in the raid.
Istanbul's deputy prosecutor said that a lawyer for the IHH submitted a list of soldiers' names to his office and said it will be examined.
'Psychological warfare'
The IDF Spokesperson's Office stated in response: "After examining the reports in the Turkish press, it is clear that the names do not belong to soldiers who were involved in the Marmara raid incident, but were rather recycled from previous lists that were published on anti-Israeli websites following Operation Cast Lead

The turkish PM has said that next time, the turkish navy will escort the blokade breakers. It would create quite a conundrum for Nato, if the Israeli navy engaged the turkish navy.

They are considering taking the list and the UN reports to the ICC for charges.

As it would if the Turkish Navy attempted to break a blockade valid in International Law.

One wonders if the Turkish Navy really wishes to start a war.

This has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but as a piece of interesting trivia: Turkey was the only one of the the sucessor states to pre-First World War states which failed to survive the war to continue using the same flag.

Just to highlight..

Israel just has to sit their ships on their maritime border and the Turkish ships would either have to stop or justly get their ships blown out of the water.

Of course the reality is that Erdogan is full of bluster and won't send his ships anywhere near Israel.

And they will be laughed out with their report that is contradicted by the formal UN report and the list of retired soldiers who were stolen from other lists.

Oh, you mean the report authored by the South American despot? The one that took 4 months of negotiations to release and didn't include valid legal opinions?
I meant the one authored by ex-ICC judges that clearly state the illegality of Israel's actions and blockade.
That report will stand up quite well, yours, not so much.

NATO is a defensive alliance. Turkish ships cross Israel's maritime border and they're on their own.
That was also my understanding until Nato went to war against Iraq , Afghanistan and Libya.

You missed the news -- the raid was legal. The ICC isn't going to prosecute a raid that the UN SC investigation has approved you moron.

If the Israeli soldiers are identified they should be given medals for justly and properly shooting armed terrorists who attempted to interfere violently with a lawful naval interdiction.

Since that time Turkey has instead decided to go to the ICJ. Presumably because it's going to look pretty bad for Turkey now that the UN SC has accepted Israel's interdiction was legal... presumably Turkey needs some sort of international guarantee that it's action would be lawful before it's going to risk war with Israel.

NATO countries signed up for that voluntarily, through a process where NATO collectively agreed to undertake those actions. NATO members are NOT obliged to join a war started by another NATO member. NATO members are only obliged to come to the defense of a nation if it is attacked.

If Turkey runs an Israeli blockade, one that the UN SC has found to be a lawful blockade, then Turkey is going to be alone in dealing with Israel.

You guys are amazing, George Orwell would be proud of you. Nato is a defensive alliance except when the US decides to invade a country.

Just to be clear, when did the UN Security Council say the blockade was lawful?
