So have you ever seen these guys? They are young black guys usually wearing a suit. They stand alone and try to sell you a pamphlet or booklet, whatever it is, on Black History. I have passed them several times in Yonge St. and if you even say hello to them they become super aggressive and in your face with their sales pitch. The kicker is that when you politely say "no thanks" and walk on they usually spit some racial slur at you. I see some of these guys a lot and some are worse than others with the slurs but today was the kicker. I said "no thanks" with a smile and walked on and the guys says "Don't like black people"? I just turned around and stared at him in disbelief. After a few seconds he just went chasing after someone else who passed going in the other direction. Who are these guys? Are they just well dressed pan handlers? Where does the money they collect go? Is it a cult? WTF?

i felt threatened by the black history panhandlers... so i donated a buck or something i cant remeber ... he gave me some evil glare it was quite frightening to a 17 year old girl at the time
I bought one of the pamphlets once. It was called The Black Human, and the writer's hypothesis was that only Black men were human because "Hu" (sic) means colour, so therefore only Coloured men were human. He was, of course, totally oblivious to the Latin root word Homo. I didn't read the rest.

Got chatting with one a few months ago, nice enough kid, but he was surprised when this white guy (me) completely owned him on black history. Bought one of the pamphlets for a twonie or something, can't remember if I read it or not.
I engaged one guy once on my way to work, and I asked about black hisory. I told him I would donate to his cause if he could give me a 10 second synopsis of who Booker T Washington was. He honestly, I swear; he started rambling on about some WWF wrestler (I didn't know who he was talking about). I just walked away chuckling.

When I was in Paris, you get all these clowns (gypsies) coming up to you trying to get you to sign one petition or another. ("The Petition Scam". Surprised it hasn't caught on here, or maybe it has and this is our variation.) Anyway, they thrust this petition and manila envelope in your face and ask you to sign it. Usually it's some noble cause like petitioning the French Government to spend more money on AIDS, or something like that. Once you sign, they ask you for a contribution to help support the cause and the money goes right into their pocket. They can spot the stupid North American tourist a mile away. (They don't bother the Frenchmen.)
Anyway, I figure that the Black History guys are the same as the Gypsies in Paris.
