I don't know anything other than the numbers, and even then I screwed up I did not post his stats accurately, it's 1.7 walks per 9 innings, I completely misread that.

What I would love to know now is is he giving up those hits and walks in the second go around in the lineup, if so, maybe he should be in the pen
Given the heat and the high K to Walk ratio, maybe he should be there anyway as setup man or closer.

Depends on his stuff, if he has more than 2 quality pitches it's very tempting to have a 100 mph starter, but I would give him a chance in the pen.

Loved the game Lawrie is having. Not just because of the story book grand slam that he hit, but more due to how excited he got afterwards. It was like the excitement was infectious. The whole dugout got into it. Great to see.

Thought Alvarez pitched well.
You are right the reaction after the grand slam made the night. Hope that energy runs through the clubhouse.

Alvarez did alright for his MLB debut. He had one bad inning. I like how he battled the hitters. Good composure.

His fastball is right up there with Morrow's in terms of speed. He had good control. Once he develops his other pitches, look out.

Romero and Morrow give the team an excellent chance to win. Cecil is getting there. Now with Alvarez up, all we need is McGowan's return. That would make a good-looking starting 5. And if one of them gets hurt, there's Drabek to step in.

I don't know how Alvarez generates velocity from that delivery of his where he pauses for a bit and then slings it. We haven't had a Latin starter with his stuff since Kelvim Escobar.

Starting pitching looks great for years to come. McGowan is looking like a real possibility and reports have his fastball as high as 97. I still have faith in Drabek. And as for futures, Deck Mcguire is not too far off, and then you have a bunch of really young arms from the past 2 drafts (Taylor, Niccolino, Hutchinson, Snydergaard, Sanchez) that are impressing this season in the minors.

if Alvarez could develop that slider, depending on his mental toughness,I think he would be a damn good closer.
He throws a fastball consistently for strikes, and keeps it down, put a hard slider with that and he would be tough in the ninth.

Yesterday's game must have been fun to be at.

So Toronto ended up beating the Angels top pair. I bet nobody was expecting that. Last I read was they were expecting to sweep the Jays. Ha ha.

You figure they,re playing the swinging A.s of 1972,,,Joe Rudi, Reggie Jackson etc. I mean I can see them having problems against Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers but Gio Gonzalez, Rich Harden getting mega strikeouts?..give me a freekin break!! ,,too many wiffs on breaking balls off speed shit,,,come on,,wheres the fkn offense boys?

The Jays grab a split of the four games in Oakland.
Nice pitching from Perez and Janssen, Joey Batts provides all the O, 34th homer, the Jays needed.

Jays in a bit of a funk and it is not going to get easier, as the Jays fans know, come September.
A lot of Red Sox and Yankees with a bit more Rays near the end. Good news is there is also some Orioles scattered around in September. There will be Angels in the outfield for the last home stand of the season.
The Jays close the season in Chicago.

Why are these games against the Rays always so ugly? They sure have the Jays number. Morrow pitching today and is being hit all round the park. Glad I'm not watching.

Same thing against Boston. They compete well against pretty much ebveryone else.
