Are road tolls a good way to pay for Rob Ford's subway plan?

In order for people to take transit it would have to be so frequent and plentiful there would never be more than a few people per vehicle.
I don't think that's true. I think if you expand the capacity of the subway more people will use it.

Your argument applies more to remote areas away from subway lines that are serviced by busses or streetcars. There are solutions to that problem that, for whatever reason, the city refuses to contemplate (like jitney services).

If they are really serious about saving the planet then the Federal govt should pony up to build a reliable system now as it would take cars off the road, it would stop the wining about gas prices and would save theplanet and lower the avg time of commuting in the GTA.

So after Ford's hand picked transit advisor said road tolls would be required to pay for subways, mayor Doug Ford has said no tolls.

I guess mayor Doug Ford was lying when he promised subways during the election.

Honestly the way the TTC is run it doesn't matter how much money u throw at it... Its just a freaking money hole...

I wouldn't mind paying tolls to improve the subway under one condition. They abolish the ridiculous union that the TTC has...

If you go check the TTC website a janitorial supervisor gets paid up to 80k... they don't even clean anything?!?! they just tell everyone else to clean. Oh and have u looked at the TTC lately? its filthy...

Ford campaigned on putting in a subway at no cost. Unbelievable. But it worked. It got him elected. A big fat liar. Not a surprise.

Ford guaranteed them jobs for life by making them an essential service, locking in their contract in perpetuity. The city lost the right to lock them out, for example, by making them essential.

It got that way because the public made it dirty. We have to teach people to throw garbage into the garbage bags instead of on the ground.

Road Tolls in Toronto to pay for new subway lines isn't going to happen and Rob Ford has come out against the idea of doing so.

Which basically means he was lying when he said he was going to build subways.

What a sweet deal, run for councellor and have your brother make you de-facto mayor.
Tell me about it. It's been apparent since the election that Doug is actually the mayor and Rob is just some sort of a front man. Recently, though, Doug has stopped bothering with Rob and has been holding the press conferences himself directly.

Ford canned the $60 license fee, and now he wants put tolls on Metro roads? Give me a break what kind of moron is this guy?? :frusty:
Such morons as him are regrettably legion in this oh-so deluded burgh.
Ford often makes statement that don't, and can't, add up. But since he's the 'one of us' type, (ie. not of the snooty elites like Miller and Adam Vaughn), the people seem to want to give him a pass for his logical transgressions. I predict that people will increasingly get a little tired of his one-line, poorly conceived (non)statements before long, and realized that they had made a bigggg mistake in putting that putz in charge of spending 10 BILLION dollars a year.

So Ford bamboozled the Toronto citizenry about the war on cars being officially over.

Yea. Right. Sure.

Now it's toll roads. Whataloadacrap.

Guess what, Mr Mayor? The citizens of Toronto have already paid for those roads.

Turns out that Ford did what a lot of politicians do at election time: pander to the lowest common denominator, make himself a "man of the people" and once elected suddenly everything changes.

Well, colour me surprised.

Mr. Ford also shot down the road toll idea Monday, floated by Gordon Chong, his hand-picked leader of the body charged with finding a viable funding model for the subway expansion.

“It's nonsense. I don't support road tolls and there's no road tolls going in.” Mr. Ford said.

You know, if TTC completes the planned extensions to Yonge, Eglington Crosstown line, et al AND makes the subways a 24/7 operation, I'd be happy to pay $5 for a ticket.

This would never happen for one reason....................when do you expect them to do track work and repairs on the main line. Our system does not have spare lines that they can use while one gets repaired. The state of the system is very shoddy due to lack of funding and maintenance work on a work week consists of about 3-4 hours work. They have to wait for all of the trains to get back to the yard, then do a power-cut so people can work at track level. Last train usually gets to the yard at 2:30-3 am and the system starts up at 5:30 to 6 am. Not much time.

Yes, because his plan doesn't add up. He doesn't have the money to pay for it.
in your opinion. why don't we wait and see what happens- or do you prefer to stay with your knee jerk reactionary pose?

Why dont they give condo rights to the companies who contribute to building the line and have a underground connection to the condo, maybe even offer a discounted rate for those who live in said condo's.
