Kessel Trade... a fleecing?

The problem with the trade isn't the level of Kessel's talent. The problem is in about 3-5 years there is going to be missing talent on the Leafs and unless Burke comes up with some shrewd moves to fix it that lack of talent will set the Leafs back 3-5 years from now. With Kessel's habit of disappearing for long stretches is he even going to be a Leaf in 5 years? I don't think it takes a genius(or as shack would say armchair wannabe GMs)to realize that if you are a bottom of the standings team than the best thing you can do is take your lumps and bottom out. Just look at the last 2 Stanley Cup champions. 3 or 4 years ago for the Hawks and 5 to 6 for the Pens were not bright days for those franchises. They took their lumps, drafted wisely(admittedly Pens got lucky after lockout lottery) and have left the Leafs in their dust because they invested in young elite talent. Seems like a sound build a perennial winning franchise philosphy to me.

Burke also trashes high 1st rounders when discussing why he did the Kessel trade but look at the best moves he's made. The Sedin twins and Pronger twice. How did he acquire those players for the Canucks and Whalers. Yeah who needs high 1st round picks.

What may happen in 3-5 years is speculation.

What Kessel has done so far is fact.

A draft pick is no guarantee of success.

The Leafs are the 2nd youngest team in the league, meaning lots of very young talent now, which should improve in the next 3-5 years. (Speculation)

They're young I'll give you that. Their talent level is debateable

And the talent level of a player yet to be drafted is even more uncertain.

Last I saw, Burke has managed to regain some Ist round help as well as a player who is consistently a 30 goal scorer.

Also these are the Bruins ... Phil Kessel , Joe Thornton and Sergei Samsonov are 3 high profile 1st rounders that they were quick to lose patience on and were traded ... Throw in Joe Colborne ( 1st round 2009 ) who they recently traded to the Leafs ... If Seguin gives you two more medicore season .. History shows Bruins will trade him ..
Thats why we have to wait a see what happens....Ya Seguin could be a slow starter, be traded, and become a scoring machine,however...
Could Colborne crack the line up next year?

He was hot after the trade with the Marlies ( change of organization must have done wonders ) but got a concussion and so he wasn't called up .. Will he crack the line up ??? It will be up to him on how hard he works out this summer ... The deeper the organization gets and the more players have to fight for jobs the better the organization will be ... The fact it was a player the GM brought to the organization means he will
be given an opportunity ..

Lets see what happens I agree ... Just cause he is drafted second over all doesn't mean he will suceed but also we can't judge his career after a rookie campaign ... I haven't seen him play but maybe he would have been better off playing in the AHL all year .. But like I said the Bruins don't have a good track record with guys like Seguin ...
See, great response with no insults. Thats the way it should be.

Unfortunately some of your other Leaf Nation brothers don't seem to understand that. They'd even pick on your sig phrase if they didn't like your comments. Lol

Are you just saying ? (What does that really mean?)
Or are you stating a fact?
If you are stating a fact, then please let me know what fact you indeed are stating, because I certainly can not tell from what you have written

Or are
You just writing...... ?

You called me a Leaf Hater .. Just cause I don't celebrate 10th place .. Maybe I am a Leaf fan who wants to see playoffs.

Leaf haters enjoy losing . Wish I saw everyrhing through rose colored glasses like sone segment of Leaf nation . I am pretty sure after every year in the last 6 we have been saying next year is going to be different excuse me if I take a wait and see approach .

No, you have misunderstood what the meaning of leaf hater is to me. Leaf haters are the ones that constantly find fault with what the leafs do, any trade, signing, anything that could potentially spark a positive out look, leaf haters are so negative to the point where they start insulting you, calling you a idiot for "drinking the kool-aid ". Sorry if I try and look for something positive now that we have a bonafide GM.
I can't stand not making the playoffs, hate it with a passion, however the positive is they have improved from last year...thats a positive. I haven't seen a cup ( to young to remember 67 win ) but what I see is the same people who insult leaf fans to the bone for not giving up on them will be the ones standing next to me yelling how they never lost faith, always a leaf fan ,bla, bla, bla.

So yes I'm frustated with all the negativity surrounding the leafs, but most of all, it's the insults that are directed towards me from some members of this board who have nothing else better do to than to provoke, then when they get told off, hide behind the phrase" relax man take a pill, It was a joke " . Disagree with me sure go ahead love a good debate, I'll disagree with you but lets do it with respect and some form of decorum thats all I ask. I know thats it's hard to interpret what peoples tones are when they type, however, with some people on this board a blind man could tell exactly what there tone is and were there going with there responses.

When I PMed you I thought I explained myself.

Just to be clear I hate the Leafs. If Tehran got an NHL team I would cheer for them over the Leafs in the Cup final. Clear enough tone?
