Yeah I think this was finally the end of the PRIDE legacy.

It's something that stops us all eventually -------- age.

All the great PRIDE fighters and champions from the last 15 years are just simply getting old.

Fedor, Wanderlei, CroCop, Hendo, Rampage, Iceman, etc.

Unfortunate, but we need to get used to our favorites getting spanked by younger fighters, re: next month CroCop vs Schaub. I wish it wasn't so and I'll always cheer for my PRIDE guys but I am also realistic.

Yeah I fear this is the end of the line for Mirko.

Schaub is a real prospect and unless he walks into a high kick I believe he is going to be on Crocop from the get go.

Rampage I think still has some good fights ahead of him though. Hamill is a good match up for him style wise.

Yes sadly he appears to be.

However he will always be remembered as classy and gracious champion in the early days of MMA.

I'm picking the ''Reem'' to take this tournament.
While it may be an age issue, there was also the matter of Fedor being outweighed by approximately 45lbs at the time of the fight - too big a difference against a guy with Silva's skills. Reminded me of Couture v. Lesnar, minus the BJJ. (And I'd still love to see the Randy v. Fedor fight at about 220lbs.)

I found it interesting that Frank Shamrock and Mauro Renallo asked if Fedor could move down to 205. It would be interesting to find out if he could, because I think that would be the only way he could extend his career.

Fedor is still the greatest mixed martial artist of the later early part of the sport. Respect.

You had two fights right... Good thing, I'm hoping, you didn't bet on this card!

56% of the "Text Messaging Poll" respondents are now incorrect with who will advance. In slang terms, "they failed!"
Josh Barnett is the only person in the tournament who has never lost to any of the others still in it. Remember that.
Mind you, he hasn't ever fought the other 5 (or seven), so.... That, and he still has a fight with the CSAC. But, it's Barnett, he'll do it.

Of course another answer would be to make a 205-230 class and a 230-265 class. Although this has been talked about for a while there doesn't seem like there is any urgency to do it.

Most likely because there a few quality HW's available as it is and this would thin things out even further.

Meanwhile the smaller HW's are caught in no mans land and at a distinct disadvantage.

But, Oracle, it would make it for many of those HEAVY LHW's to have another weight division to fight in, particularly as they get a bit older and slower, while still having many of the skills and mentality. A weight division that Tito Ortiz, for example, would "naturally" fit in to... Cutting weight at older age does become increasingly difficult.

Homo Ergaster 1 : Homo Sapien 0
Whaaaaaaaaaaa?????????
I believe Hard Idle is attempting wit in comparing Silva to Homo ergaster and Fedor to Homo sapien.
However the comparison fails as Homo ergaster was indigenous to eastern and southern Africa 1.5-2 million years ago and Silva comes from modern day Brazil.

Ps. If Hard Idle has a knowledge of historical anthropology, it is almost a fitting analogy as Homo ergaster was a much larger species/subspecies than Homo sapien.

Or I could be completely mistaken :)

On a side note I think whoever wins Overeem vs. Werdum will take the tournament.
