Have these guys at CBSC ever listened to hip-hop ? Well thank God our government is protecting us from the evils of the sung word.
That's not how it works though-- They only respond to complaints. No complaint, no action.

The big thing in Canada isn't profanity, but anything that could be construed as hate speech. Eg, Fuck is fine at the right times, but Cunt generally isn't (as it's a rather negative pejorative for women). With a little work you could probably get all hip hop / rap off the air all together. :)

You realize that Orwell wrote books like 1984 because he did not support such actions.

To be fair, I don't recall if the video had those lyrics in it at the time. I remember when that video came out, it was a pretty big deal due to the cgi in it , don't remember if those lyrics were in the video or not.

Does this mean all those Hilarious skits monolouges of as Buddy Cole are now Taboo ?

He even did a sketch once on the word FAGGOT.

To me, the word "faggot" or "fag" is only offensive if you are just that....a "faggot" or a "fag".

Or the U.S. where they have just censored the hell out of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn.
That's funny, I just downloaded a copy.....

Censorship is a slippery slope. A small group or even a single person is offended by something a bunch of idiot civil servants can't over react fast enough. That is excactly how Nazi Germany started. Personally I am no fan Rap music and religion, but I just don't listen to it. However, some of the messages of hate and violence those 2 things represent are much more harmful than the word "faggot". I'm not about to write to the CRTC and ask them to be removed from Canadian TV as I know I would be dismissed as some crackpot, and I don't agree with censorship.

I am sure it is, but many other things are not. "Money for Nothing" is not the problem, the problem is bad censorship which does occur even in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
Clearly we've had our challenges over the years, and will continue to have them - video game violence is one currently.... but an 80s rock song by Dire Straights... really that's pathetic. As another poster noted, has no one in Canada listened to Hip Hop?

Freedom of speech, just watch what you say.

Freedom of speech is useless if you can't be offensive, I mean really. You have freedom of speech, except when we don't like it. Oh gee thanks. I guess I have freedom of association, as long as I only associate with approved people, and freedom of religion, as long as I follow the suitable religion.
Never mind the right to arm bears. [And really why shouldn't fat hairy faggots have firearms]

F is for fun
A, everyone wants to bring home an A from school
GG, well everyone likes twins
O, might as well hate a donut
It must be that T, it reminds people of the crucifixion of christ,
so lets get rid of that nasty T, come on Faggos lets dance.

Strangely enough, all this political correctness makes me more inclined to be hostile.

Rather than the typical "Arrogant American" flippant response why don't you look in your own backyard before criticizing others. You may have downloaded Huck Finn in its original form but why don't you Google the issue and see the censorship taking place in your own schools? That's pathetic.

What's also pathetic is an arrogant American with no view of the world outside his own increasingly isolated country other than the insights he may gain from an escort review board based in Toronto.

Easy there little one.

I've worked and/or traveled in every continent except for Antarctica.

Perhaps you're just being the typical "Smug Canadian", can dish it out but can't take it, every criticism results in a standard response... "oh yeah, well in the US....."

If you think banning this song is good policy then defend it.

Probably the best thing that could have happened to the song. How often does it get played on radio these days?? Hardly ever. Now...its headline news. Good for sales.

Or any other democracy in the world including the United States. There is no place with absolute freedom of expression.

That is why Stern and others had to move to satellite radio. To escape American censorship.
Yep, I can hear more unedited rap music on Canada public air waves, then the USA. Come to think of it, when is the last time I heard...."See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup Yeah buddy that's his own hair That little faggot got his own jet airplane That little faggot he's a millionaire"

Might be no ban here in the states but you never know it. Radio stations forgot about that tune--I loved that song, BTW
