How much did you pay for that thing? Also, is it a replacement of an older TV or an extra set? After reviewing all the TV's, I just bought a 46" LED Samsung. .
It's brighter and darker but not at the same time. LED TV's are still LCD's but with LED back/edge lit. LCD's will always "leak" light through and not provide the best bright and dark picture at the same time (native contrast ratio). That's why you'll always see plasma with higher contrast than LCD/LED.LED is the next big thing: 30-40% power savings, brighter/darker picture, super slim design.
You should look for an HDTV that is wireless compatible (doesn't need to be wireless but needs to be compatible as that's the next step) with at least 3+ HDMI ports.
Paid $1400. I bought the 6500 model, which is an edge LED model. How much did you pay for that thing? Also, is it a replacement of an older TV or an extra set?
I don't know about that, seems to me Plasma is losing the battle to LCD/LED just like Beta lost the battle to VHS. My estimate is that Future Shop and Best Buy displays have a ratio of about 80/20 for LCD to Plasma TV's and Plasma displays continue to shrink.Oh, and before somebody jumps in and says Plasma is dead here's a recent article from Consumer reports

Not to be a dick but you're basing your information on what you see at Future Shop or Best Buy? I'm in the industry and see the numbers. Comparing year to year, plasma has a bigger increase in unit sales than that of LCD. And that consumer reports article was just made up? numbers are numbers and Plasma TV's aren't going anywhere. Besides, people were saying plasma was dying 5 years ago and it's still going strong. Now, I'm not saying Plasma is going to outsell LCD/LED's but to say plasma continue to shrink is just false.I don't know about that, seems to me Plasma is losing the battle to LCD/LED just like Beta lost the battle to VHS. I bought the 46 inch Sony LED/LCD/3D Bravia set several months ago. The picture is outstanding. You can't go wrong with the picture. Thanks for the comments. I am leaning strongly towards LED. Thinner, lighter, quality seems to have improved over the last few months and prices have come down as well.
But what matters is perception. And the perception out there is that plasma is on its way out...Not to be a dick but you're basing your information on what you see at Future Shop or Best Buy? What matters is you are happy with the picture quality and features of the tv... Don't listen to what some marketing guy tells you.But what matters is perception. And the perception out there is that plasma is on its way out...
Smart choice, be sure you ask a lot of questions as there are different LED types, make sure it does what you want. Thanks for the comments. I am leaning strongly towards LED. Thinner, lighter, quality seems to have improved over the last few months and prices have come down as well.
I'm not. I've come to that conclusion myself. What matters is you are happy with the picture quality and features of the tv... Don't listen to what some marketing guy tells you.
I thought the same thing when I chose to go Beta over VHS, Beta was waaaaaay better in quality..................the rest is history I'm sure you know about. What matters is you are happy with the picture quality and features of the tv... Don't listen to what some marketing guy tells you.
The reason I used Best Buy and Future Shop as my litmus test is because these two giants own majority share of TV sales in Canada and they are a good indicator of where trends are moving. These two retailers are closely tied into the manufacturers and know what's going on and where they're headed. Not to be a dick but you're basing your information on what you see at Future Shop or Best Buy? I bought LED because of many reasons, didn't even think what others bought. There are many reasons I discovered in my research, least of all, low energy consumption and costs, longer life, more eco friendly, about 3/4" thick and fits perfectly where I wanted to put it, etc.. Plasma had some advantages, but looking at all the pros and cons, I went LED, and I won't go back, lol. btw, I was leaning on Plasmas over LCD's for my needs, but when I saw the LED side by side with the LCD, it was night and day, the difference was huge. The difference is that a plasma tv will play anything an LED will play.
If you are buying LED to follow what others are doing then you got personal problems!
Just bought a $450 42" 720p plasma for a friend and it is spectacular. Anything more than 720p is wasted unless you watch BlueRay movies or video game.
