One mistake men make is asking other men what they like. Who gives a fuck, unless you're gay. I was looking for some Calvin Klein Obsession, that women I know like, and a male friend of mine said, "I like this one." And I said "Who cares." Ask women.

Issey Miyake and Issey Summer
Wow. I'm not knocking Issey (I love it too) but I find most people just can't "comprehend" his fragrances.

Also be sure to bring some coffee beans with you to clear your nose between samples.

I've often been complimented while wearing Polo (green). I've never been complimented while wearing Axe body spray (or Old Spice body spray, for that matter).

I've worn Polo (green) since 1982. I only have two bottles of cologne, and this is one of them. Classic male scent with pine top note. I think its very 1980's in scent (not like current "marine note" synthetics in vogue now) that chicks in the 1980's really went for. Not sure if they do anymore.

Funny story of mine from several years ago:

I get this sample of Alfred Dunhill's 'Desire' given to me, so put it on and head to the MP (Steeles Royale). The MPA (who I've seen before) gives me a hug and then goes into rhapsody over the scent. She is like sniffing my collar, purring, and says "I love this fragrance - what is it?" so I tell her and she says she is going to buy a bottle tomorrow. I ask if for a b/f and she says no, to wear herself LOL.

Thinking I had it made as I had discovered the scent that drives women wild, I bought a bottle myself and wore it a few times. The women at work and family members didn't like it at all. My mom I visited and she took a whiff and said "What is that awful scent you're wearing? It smells like you spilt a bottle of cherry cough syrup all over you." (My mom was always one to not mince words in making her opinions known lol). Personally I didn't like it either - I only wore it as I thought women liked it - and since it seemed only one woman liked it, I went back to Polo (green).

Thing is, there is no magic scent to buy that all women you meet will go nuts/sexy over - women like different things like we do, so some might like one cologne and others might hate it. Best to wear what you like. If you get a g/f who loves one male cologne, and you don't hate it, then wear that and all will be well.

I liked a scent on women so I bought a bottle for a girl I was dating once...she smelled it and hated it - said it reminded her of what old ladies in Russia wore. I decided to test each woman I dated by asking what she thought of that scent, and was more favourable in my opinion of those who liked it.

I love patchuli... but it is not subtle and must be applied sparingly. And those who don't like it can't stand it!

Jean Paul Gauthier for me.

Colognes can smell different from person to person, body chemistry is a factor. Bring a woman with you when you're sampling if it's your SO, if not just ask different girls who walk by for their opinions.

D&G Classic

The sexy eastern European sales lady at the Bay said its a sure thing.
Since both Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are gay and enjoying a long-term relationship with each other, D&G is a sure thing...for what? LOL

This sounds like fun ... you might move right from picking out cologne to picking up girls.

I long ago settled into two kinds of Klein ... Escape and Obsession.

No scientific statistics, but all anecdotal evidence tells me the ladies love it. Both civilian and SP.

If I've forgotten a splash from a favorite when heading out, I also keep tiny display samples of cologne in my coat pockets or the car armrest and will sometimes grab a dab "in emergency."

I've never had complaints as a result, and since I don't even know the labels of half those tiny vials, anecdotal evidence also tells me it doesn't really matter what cologne you wear. Still, for me ...

Escape. Obsession.

Fahrenheit does wonders for me. Working in a hotel environment, I had females follow me, I kid you not guys.

One married girl, finally bought it for her husband. Next day she was sad. I asked her what happened? She said, it didn't smell the same on her husband.

Apparantly fragrances smell different on different people.

Anyways, Fahrenhiet for me all the way.

There's a bit of science behind it.

Young girls will almost always love scents that are flowery, fruity, citrus or sporty.

While older women prefer musks, woods or resins scents.

It also depends on when a woman smells you, every cologne has three notes. The first is immediately after the cologne makes contact with your skin, the second note is about 10 minutes or so and the last note is approximately 30-45 minutes. The last note should remain from 1-5 hours and of course will get more faint as time passes.

Colognes will smell differently, dependent on each note.
