Don’t mind city life as in enjoying a weekend in Toronto but would rather have the peace and quiet in the country. Perhaps stay in a cottage and go fishing/hiking/enjoy the countryside. Please recommend and thanks in advance.

Lots of places in Muskoka. Deerhurst Inn, Clevelands House, call them they sometimes have weekend get away specials.
You could also try the Peterborough area, or further up North. A little less manicured but also a lot less pricey, and you get treated like less of a tourista. Mind you, I think this is heart blackfly season so you might want to wait until after the next good heatwave. It won't save you from the misquotes, but swarming blackflies are hell on Earth.
Niagara Falls... Just had a weekend getaway there with Mrs. CG! But I suspect we were getting away for different reasons and a different agenda! Hee hee
We do the canoe trip, hiking, and quiet weekends too, but last weekend was all about getting each other off!

It's getting tougher to get away now that there's a Walmart, Home Depot, Starbucks, a couple of Tim Hortons in Parry Sound near my cottage.
I suggest taking a bicycle on the ferry to Toronto Island - no cars, no bugs, a peaceful nude beach and a nice restaurant.

I've had inline spell check for years and I only recently stopped proofing what I write...This actually really makes for a nice day especially if you have a date. Personally I prefer walking, and I'm just cheesy enough to bring a picnic basket.
Thanks ladies and gentlemen, for the suggestions of all those wonderful places. Forgot to mention that doing a day or so of boating and fishing will be very nice. Something uniquely Canadian will be much appreciated, such as Canadian bacon and a lot of non-food activities. LOL!!!

Being there and done that so many times in the Niagara Falls-Niagara on the Lake area, but definitely without Mrs. G involved. LOL!!! Time to try something north of Toronto, something in the wilderness and make out like wild animals.
Toronto Island is a to do project but probably good for one day. Unless there are many things to do other than nude beach and a restaurant.
