On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Greece
Location: Newark, N.J.
Venue: Prudential Center
Broadcast: Pay-per-view and Spike TV
Date: Mar 27, 2010
MAIN CARD

* Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy (for welterweight title)
* Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir (for interim heavyweight title)
* Jake Ellenberger vs. Ben Saunders
* Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch
* Mark Bocek vs. Jim Miller

Prediction time, so lets give it a go shall we;

GSP vs Hardy........ Hardy will spend most of the fight on his back getting pounded on. GSP easily.
Carwin vs Mir........ Mir. This guy is possessed to get back to fight Lesnar and Carwin will not stand in his way.
Ellenberger vs saunders.. Saunders. Looked really good against Davis last time out.
Alves vs Fitch......... Fitch. Will use his superior wrestling to wear Alves down.
Bocek vs Miller....... Bocek. He will not get out grappled by Miller and his stand up is always improving.

The odds I have seen on GSP are between -500 and -800, the shortest odds I ever recall seeing for a UFC title fight. I am impressed that GSP can make his usual "this will be my toughest fight" spiel with a straight face. Not that Hardy does not have a chance, Matt Serra did. But it is not too likely.

GSP is going to destroy Hardy. This guy isn't even in GSP's universe.

I am more interested in Mir/Carwin - should be a good one and the best heavyweight tilt in a long time

Fitch/Alves should also be a slobberknocker!

My predictions:

GSP will grind out a win with Hardy....Hopefully he won't play it safe and try to make the fight entertaining...

Mir by submission over Carwin....

Saunders by KO over Ellenberger (would not be surprised if it was with the Thai Clinch and Knees)

Alves by Decision...Alves will just power his way out of Fitch's takedown and hammer him with his striking..

Bocek by Submission...Rear Naked Choke

burt-oh-my!

Hmmm.....I think HArdy is better than you think. He has a way of making that one hit that stuns his opponenet.

Is there a legtal way to bet on these fights in Canada? I'd like to place a hundred bucks on Hardy, if the odds are good,

I use sports.com. hardy is +450 at present.

The problem is that it is hard to hit anyone from your back.

Thiago Alves is out. He had some brain irregularities found during a pre-fight CAT scan. Jon Fitch will now fight Ben Saunders.

And he has fought exactly who?
Who had he knocked out?
D-oh.
Nobody worth anything.
He's a Dana-favourite so he gets a instant step up.
Hardy is in big trouble.

I know what you're saying and respect your opinion, but... not bloody likely.

Wow huge chance for Saunders to climb up the ladder.
Mike Swick, a gatekeeper (at best) at welterweight and the worst of the AKA 170-lbers absolutely drilled Ben Saunders 9 months ago.

Jon Fitch by complete ground and pound domination over Saunders, a la GSP.

'Tis a shame, I was really looking forward to the Alves-Fitch rematch.

Other matches:

Georges St. Pierre should absolutely dominate Dan Hardy. Forget the talk about the "puncher's chance" - 2nd round ground and pound stoppage. Hardy feels GSPs new strength and struggles to stay on his feet for even one minute total.

Frank Mir by TKO over Shane Carwin. I waffled on this one. Almost picked Carwin because of his right hand, but Mir is much better in all aspects of the game - except for wrestling, where Carwin's advantage isn't as great as Mir's is with BJJ and technical striking. Plus I'm not sold on Carwin, based on the fact that he's a part-time mixed martial artist, his lack of upper echelon training partners (only goes to Greg Jackson's - with few, if any elite HW there - for short stints) and because of the questionable level of competition he's faced/big fights he's been in.

I really like the way Hardy fights, but I like GSP more. I'd be very surprised if Hardy lasted 3 rounds. But you never know what is happening in the personal lives of these fighters. Maybe GSP has been eating too much poutine and hanging out in some of those Montreal strip joints.

sportsinteraction.com said:
D. Hardy Price 5.00
GSP Price 1.14
So can someone translate that into English. I'm thinking that the last set of numbers from Sportsinteracion.com mean that a dollar on Hardy will get you $5 back if he wins, while a buck on GSP will get you $1.14 back if he wins. But the other numbers mean nothing to me.

Hardy at +450 means that if you wager $100 on Hardy and he wins, your return is $450.

GSP at -800 means that to win $100 with GSP you have wager $800. so if GSP loses your out $800.

Don't really get sportsinteraction.com to be honest with you. there's no way that you can wager $1 on GSP and win $1.14.

He's to heavy a favourite.

I need some explaining on that one

Or think about it this way

GSP is 1-8 to win - bet $8 to win $9
Hardy is 8-1 to win - bet $1 to win $9

Not exactly right but more explainable for us pony gamblers
