Late summer, I got a few quotes to re insulate my house. Found on company that uses an expanding foam product. Quoted $5500 roughly.

3 days later, one of my neighbors says he's friends with the guy who drives the truck and does the work. Says buddy will do the job on a Sunday under the table, behind the owners back for $2000.

While it was tempting to save money, no way. I'm not screwing an honest contractor over to save a few bucks.....

Only thing I'm considering now is should I have told the contractor his staff is scamming on him?

Cheers!

This a difficult question without circumstances. Would I count cards at a casino (if I knew how)? Yes. Would I intentionally sabotage someone's career to get past them? No.

Shows you just what kind of a person you are......what ever happened to honor and integrity? Guess those words aren't in your vocabulary...

The answer to the op is no. I've had more than a few oppurtunities to get ahead by underhanded means and I didn't stoop to that level. Now some may scoff but money can't buy my integrity.

Just a play on words: many here DO cheat to get "head" already so the results of the poll should come as no surprise......

I had this agency SP a few years back that offered to see me off the books for about 20% off the agency rate. I knew she was going behind the agency and I declined. She never did last too long in the biz.

He's right. It's hard to answer this question in the abstract. Would I cheat on my SO with my best friend's wife? No. Would I "fudge" on my tax return? Yes. Big things, probably no; small things, probably yes.

it does not really work anyway, the fucking girls are so flaky, they may honestly want to come to your place to make this extra buck but then in the end of the day they just not gonna show up if the agency driver is not bringing them.

I'd much rather pay the agency to ensure the level of service and reliability

I have cut corners but never to the point of screwing someone over. For example, I'd pay cash under the table to the original contractor to save the tax.

Funny, the government has a whole site extolling how this is so bad and how it hurts everyone. But if you think about it, this is BETTER than giving a percentage to the government, them taking a cut, squandering it away on useless programs, THEN giving it back into the economy. If you pay someone directly that money goes directly back into the economy as opposed to a percentage being wasted. What they are effectively saying is that it is better to pay them because they know better than us on what to do with our money.......

I thought about it.... long and hard actually. But no....

But I would fudge my taxes a little. A lot if I knew how. I have no issue screwing the gov't over.

Cheers!

The guy might also put in some cheap crap that is substandard and flammable. If you discover it, what you gonna do? If you don't find out about it, your house might burn down because of it.

I don't think this is a simple yes or no question. If I could morally justify it (i.e. its within my comfort zone) then I would. If I felt my cheating would hurt someone else unfairly then I wouldn't do it.
