Who really needs a zillion $$ Rolex or whatever?
I do. I really do. Honest. I'm convinced it's for the best...Why would I lie (to myself)?... And I'll go to my grave swearing that the hunk of gold boat anchor weighing down my left arm uncomfortably for the past 10 years has absolutely made me a better person in every way, and significantly raised my current social standing (haha), regardless of the oodles of money I've wasted indescriminately simply by obsessing over it....just like hobbying, it's a very intimate and personal form of personal fulfillment and satisfaction...I just really hate the fact I keep absent-mindedly forgetting these trinkets on the night stands at Roommates, Exquisite, Mirage, Select, MaxP, Sassy Angels... after each tryst. To show you the class of these places, each time it's happened, both the lady and agency has called and gone out of their way to return them, much to my embarrassment!

Honestly guys, doesn't a sexy woman wearing nothing but a massive man's timepiece to bed with you not just make you hard as a rock!? or is that just more weirdness related to only me....?

I hear you. It's not really new though, i remember seeing some magazine a few years ago that featured female models wearing vintage mens rolexes.

A cell phone is still less portable/secure than a watch that wraps around your wrist.

You need a holster, or you can put it in your pocket; in other words, it is removed from your body. IME, holsters suck because they can fall off when you enter/exit a vehicle, take a dump, etc.

Your cell phone never needs charging (which makes it unavailable and non-portable for hours)?
Please dont get me wrong, I generally tell time with my watch which is almost always on my wrist when I am awake.

That being said, you make it sound like you are carrying around a 80's brick phone. I wear a watch because I want to, because I have watches I like to wear because they look good, not because my back hurts from carrying around my 4oz blackberry, or because I dont want to take it out of my pocket.

I talk somewhere around an hour a day on my bb, and charge it once or twice a week while I am sitting at my desk, or asleep.

If you want to wear a watch thats cool, they can be a styling accessory.
Don't need to over inflate the drawbacks of carrying a cellphone or blackberry just to try and make your argument.

ya i do, its a fashion statement...i have a several over $2500...i always catch clients staring at it when we're conversing...so it does the trick for me lol
Serious question, do you find that you can charge more money when you present yourself in a more successful way - i.e. the $2500 watch?

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
The only time I take it off is for a shower, and to change over from my work-to-weekend watch. :D

Rolex is good, but Patek Phillippe is better, Breguet is definitely the best

breguet is hardly even in the same league as patek
breguet starts from about 7 grand while patek starts at 15

Couldn't care less on the league if I could ever afford to own a Patek Phillippe, a Brueget, a Vacheron Constantin and an Audemars Piguet....in addition to just Rolex.

Simply put, these are real trophies that appreciate over time, unlike "hotties/trophy type ladies" who depreciate fast...just like men

In the meantime, Timex or Seiko are just fine.

Forgot one of the other reasons I tend to avoid watches....Mild contact allergy to nickle, which is commonly used in the backs of watches. :( Wear a watch too long, and I'll display eczema like symptoms.

they do not really appreciate, but the price of new ones does get adjusted for inflation, so there is much less of a depreciation than say a car would have

but a 10yo rolex cannot fetch anything like a brand new one would

by the way - I am shocked by the poll results. So many people don't wear watches...I thought only geeks(crossed) IT people do that

I work in an explosive atmosphere (high pressure natural gas production sites and facilities, drilling rigs, etc) and since cell phones are not intrinsically safe, mine stays in the truck for the majority of my work day.

Cellphones are far more practical time pieces than watches are in the modern world, more accurate, more reliable, more durable, and more convenient.

When I stumble off a plane without the foggiest clue whether I've just travelled +5 or +6 timezones my cellphone connects to the local network and updates with the local time, accurate to the second. Even the fanciest watch is no more accurate than your ability to set it.

I'm always carrying my cellphone too which makes it convenient, adding a watch is adding a device, one more thing to worry about, and watches get in the way.

So no, they aren't practical in the modern world.

On the other hand an expensive watch is a damn fine piece of jewellery. For special occaisons they look nice, no matter whether they are set to the right time or not.

I would not wear such a thing in my everyday life, though: If it's nice enough jewellry to be worth wearing, it's also something that might get broken, so only suitable for dressy occasions.

The ONLY jewelry a man should wear? Really?

I have about a dozen watches, but presently only wear 2- a dress watch (ESQ) and a sport watch (Nike).

Other jewelry includes a wrist chain, a selection of rings and a neck chain. All given to me by Mrs. CG over the years... (She used to work at a jewelry store...)

I didn't know there was a rule about jewelry for men...
