...despite having a 5 year absence in between albums.

Will the highest selling band to come out of this decade LINKIN PARK be remembered among the greatest of all time?

Surprisingly, COLDPLAY was way down on the list.

Most of that stuff is very far indeed from the quality and innovation of the music I grew up with - rock in the late 60's to mid '80's. Reading through that list and perusing the manufactured plastic pop stars and brain-dead, no-talent rappers, it is difficult to perceive any promising future for American music.

There are a few good rock bands - U2, Green Day - but where the hell are today's equivalents of the Stones, Doors, Zeppelin, Clapton, Hendrix, Springsteen or Bob Dylan??

Tellingly, 2 of the 60's and 70's best acts - The Beatles and Santana - still make the list in some form.

Unfortunately, the fact that this music is the top selling stuff, does not reflect well on our society's tastes.

Actually there is lots of good music out there, it's just harder to find. Mainstream radio, which played all the old acts you mentioned, now is owned by a few mega-corps who have the same music programmed across the country and it's all crap. You don't get exposed to the variety that you once did when the DJ's, especially FM, played what they wanted.

Also Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart and Johnny Cash (although I can't say I'm a fan of the "new" Rod Stewart, except for maybe his taste in women).

Something is just not right whem Eminem and Briteny Spears are in the top 5.

... more like best digital singles for the latter half of the decade, to put correctly. Imagine what the rankings would be like if digital paid singles dl was already as popular back in 2000 .

Anyway, Ga Ga got 2 top ten.... sweet.

I actually think Eminem is a pretty talented guy. He brought a whole new dimension to rap.

Actually, there are a # of acts on the list which originated before the current decade or which still sell their old albums briskly. Bon Jovi (80's), Green Day (90's), U2(80's), Sinatra (40's!), Mary J. Blige (80's), Elvis (50's), Michael Jackson (wtf?! - 80's), AC/DC (70's), Metallica (80's).

It's a real sign of the immense suck-age of contemporary artists that geezers still sell competitively against them.

You grew up with rock music and you think it's the best thing since bread, which is fine. However, some people aren't into your type of music; they too think their music is the best. That's just how opinions work, isn't it?

Some may say the real quality were Bob Marley, The Wailers, Fela Kuti, Public Enemy, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, The Temptations, Aretha, Barbara Streisand, etc etc.
