Just a comment...

It's amazing how quickly conventional Christmas lights have been phased out of society. I was at Canadian Tire and the section for conventional lights is like 1/3 of an aisle, whereas the LED lights take up aisle after aisle after aisle.

I'm all for the LEDs and am willing to accept the change in appearance (not as good, IMO) for the energy savings.

But it's just amazing at how quickly conventional lights have become the modern day typewriter.

However, I also observed the same thing that you did about the LED takeover. I'm wondering if I should stockpile some replacement bulbs before they totally vanish.

Isn't that a hoot. The latest ones simulate the older technology. You can get LEDs that look like mini-lights as well as ones that look like the old 5 watt incandescent bulbs.

I wouldn't necessarily worry about replacements disappearing immediately. Mini-lights took over from the old larger incandescent bulbs over a decade ago and you can still get 5 and 7 watt bulbs and strings.

If they could have made LEDs look exactly like the old bulbs from the get-go they would have. That was one of the biggest complaints about the LEDs.

Technology is just starting to catch up and allow them to do it.

I still love my old C9 incandescent outdoor bulbs and I have NO intention of switching to LED's any time soon, or until my spares dry up.

Sadly, you can't even find Noma C9 colourfast bulbs anymore.

If I had of known that, I would have bought a crate of them a few years ago before they phased them out.

Maybe I'm just stuck in the past, but I love the look of the old bulbs and the way the snow would melt around them.

Sigh.....another piece of my youth disappears forever. I remember my parents old Noma set. "Made in Canada", a black wire and a red wire, bacalite sockets, they even had a little rubber washer inside the socket to keep the moisture out. Now, everything is Made in fucking China.

You can't change them if you wanted to, they are fixed into the sockets.

On average they're supposed to last a minimum of five years. Now that's for Christmas lights.

On the new refrigerators where LED lights are used the manufacture usually states they will last the life of the fridge. Who really knows though.

LEDs just don't look "right" Though they certainly use less power.

I don't mind LED's in tail lights in cars though. I think they look pretty slick in fact, Bam, they're on, bam, they're off. Mind you, I bet you if you had to replace a cluster, you probably have to buy the whole tail light for $800.00.

I have a box of spare bulbs...why, don't they sell spare bulbs anymore? If that is the case I will take one of my existing strands and use it for parts/bulbs to service the other strands.
