Got this damned rock chip tonight and it spidered 15 mins later as I drove home!

It isn't more than 7 inches long and I'm making sure it doesn't grow anymore by keeping my car in the underground.

Don't really wanna replace the entire windshield ($300-$500) so if they can still repair it, that'd be great. Gonna call one of those mobile windshield companies to check it out.

You need a new windshield; the repair places are usually limited to about the diameter of a quarter.

Between a rock and a hard place
Its already too big to fill. By the time you drive to the repair shop you will have to replace the windshield.

You're better off replacing the whole windshield.

Weather you park it underground or outside for a couple of minutes with the warm temps during the day and cold nights the crack will rip further across.
To slow down the crack you'll need to cover the windshield inside and out, so the glass doesn't get cold.

The mobile windshield guy came today and did the whole repair thing. As he filled it, the damned crack kept growing. It hit just before the mid-line of the windshield before it finally stopped. After the repair, all that's left is a slight hairline reflection, but as long as it stopped expanding, I'm fine with that.

He usually has a 100% guarantee on repairs, but not this time just cuzza the persistence the stupid crack kept giving him. So he gave me a 25% discount.

It's a brand new 2006 car, so the windshields are hard to come by. Even the dealership is gonna take a while to get one. Aftermarket windshields for my car will probably show up in a month or two, and will probably cost around $450. This repair job'll do until then, gawd, I just hope it doesn't grow anymore.

Even though the guy "fixed" it, the fact that the crack continued to grow while he was trying to fix it coupled with the fact that he won't warranty the repair would give me cause to worry about it's structural strength. Personally, I'd be replacing it pretty darn quick.

Ccheck with wrecking yards or recyclers for a used one, although there's likely not a lot of inventory for a 2006. But maybe they can find you one form a dealer in the US. More cars get sold there, and there might be windshields salvaged from Lemon Law buybacks which had mechanical issues that could not be fixed up for resale, or cars with engines or transmissions ruined by abuse or a botched service.
