The Code was a lot different in those days. Brawling was encouraged and any sexual comment or innuendo about a guy's "girl" or wife would start a fight.

In that context, Shaw's reaction isn't as strange as it appears today and the soldier's comment is socially provocative and weird.

I heard a funny story one time about Gordie Howe and Red Kelly (who were by all accounts best friends for years).

I can't do it justice, so here's what I found on line....

Gordie Howe didn’t show all that much in the beginning, but then he improved. He was sort of lackadaisical; you’d say. Gordie was cute, he’d use cute tricks on you, talk into your ear when you were on the ice. During a game, he asked me: ‘How’s the wife, Red?’ The puck was in the corner and he had one arm around me and I was cuddling the puck with my feet to make sure it didn’t get loose. I turned to say, ‘We’ll she’s great!’ and he hit me, dang-near putting me through the boards. I said, ‘You got me, that’s one’. He was cute, see?

Diana Rigg kind of grows on you. Sometimes she looked great and sometimes she looked just GND. I can't really put her up there with some of the Hollywood women on this thread.

By the way, she was not just a Bond girl, but also a Bond wife. I'm glad George Lazenby took one for the franchise and not Connery.

She's had a long and varied career, recently appearing on Game of Thrones as the Tyrell Family Matriarch...she gave the order for King Joffrey to be poisoned.
