Why is this being reported?

Over 12 people have been killed in a mass shooting in Thousand Oaks California. Since The James Brady Act was allowed to expire under W over 800 people have been killed in mass shootings. Americans are perfectly happy with it - better to decrease the surplus population. As long as gun rights are protected, everyone is fine. Now's not the time to talk about gun control.

The US military has quite a few programs for assisting the military back into civilian life including for those suffering PTSD and other physical and mental disabilities. The soldier just needs to ask for the help and that unfortunately is the inherent problem. <-- this isn't just soldiers, emergency responders have similar issues.

I think Americans do give a shit about their vets. Over the years I've seen increasing support for veterans. In my industry, they are often given preference during job interviews and the US gov't offers employers programs to help cover the cost of vet training. I believe the gov't also backs loans for vets and I know lots of companies offer decent discounts.

1/2 my family is x-military, Canada offers some assistance, but it's not very comprehensive and of course there are wait times to get anything done.

In many ways Canada is worse than the United States, probably the main reason why Chretien stayed out of Iraq. I sincerely hope your right Promo, this is one instance where I'd be reassured to be wrong. My grandfather and my father were WW II vets and my NJ cousin spent two years in Vietnam.

Gene Hackman was a Marine, after his honourable discharge he was counseled to take up acting to help him reintegrate into society. I did a background check, I was surprised to learn how many Marine veterans became actors.
