So,...hot girl advertises, you text her, she texts back, blah-blah-blah, "I need a deposit to come see you". And it's ALWAYS the same BS. In the whole of my sorry life, I've
never made a deposit (well, that's not true ;) ) with a provider, especially one I just met. Long-term provider, sure! After trust etc. Brand new? Not on your life! Not on an entire village of lifes!
When did these start? I don't mean legit providers, I mean the liars.

The Ladies deal with just as many fakes as we do. I suspect the evolution of a deposit was born from the need to ensure a client's authenticity and that we are gonna actually show up.

The scammers are capitalizing on this theory. I wanna say it's been probably 10 or so years that this has become mainstream

If the lady requesting said deposit doesn't have any online footprint or reviews of thier authenticity. It's a polite sorry. Can't do it.

Those Ladies who have a professional looking website and reviews to back up thier buisness model. I have no issue providing a conservative reservation.

To each thier own though. If you do some basic research of a lady you will find what you need to put you at ease or save from risk.

I guess I've been lucky...never been burnt on a deposit. I've, more often than not, pre-paid the full fee for out calls so that it has less of a transactional feel when the date begins.

Who knows, maybe I'll re-think if I were to ever lose a bunch but, for now, I'll just do my research and pay deposits when I'm comfortable doing so.

So where was the scam part to this story?
She’s allowed to ask - you’re allowed to refuse.
Doesn’t make it a scam.

Do your research and you won’t have issues with any of the established ladies in town.

you’re missing out on a lot of Ottawa's finest talent - - and better quality experiences imho.

No no, that's not what I mean. This wasn't a provider at all. These are full-on scams. I've looked on sites like Leolist across Canada, and it's the same number. These are not women who want a deposit and in good faith are legitimate providers....these are criminals. I think perhaps there's been a misunderstanding and it's entirely the way I broached the question. It should have read: when was the hobby infiltrated by online thieves? And believe me when I say, this isn't a mistake. That's what I meant. It's also why I included "Long-term provider, sure! After trust etc." I should have been clearer and extrapolated my question so it made more sense. But thank you for the advice.

Fully support this.
Deposits are something I generally avoid, I recall seeing another thread a few days back about maintaining your privacy. Imagine
1. having a burner line,
2. texting at odd hours,
3. driving 30 minutes away from home,
4. parking 10 minutes away from the location and so many other hoops just to have your bank statements show “interac to MissBubbleButt001@xmail.com

FYI, there’s a couple hobbyists here who I’ve noticed lobby in favor of providers no matter what, I never really understood why until sometime ago

A fellow hobbyist on here who kept dropping shady reviews was so pressed on double teaming an SP with me and when I pushed, he opened up about living with her/being her partner.

At the end of it all, it comes down to what you are comfortable with, reviewed SP, newbie, verified or not.

There’s been a rise in organized crime through the pandemic. I’m sure it can’t have escaped anyone there’s been a rash of car thefts, phishing texts and emails to give just a couple of examples. I’m personally hearing some of the scams on LL are coming from international rings in Russia and elsewhere. Of course there is lots of organized crime in Canada too. I’m sure there are a few ladies involved and some providers scamming as well but I believe the spike has a lot more to do with the fucked up state of the world than anything in the industry.

Quite a few providers have had their accounts hacked and with AI and the onslaught of deep fakes about to rain down upon us, it is more important than ever to protect yourself from obfuscation, lies and scam artists everywhere, they can do lot more damage than steal a small deposit.

If I was a client I would only do as the OP suggested and deal with reputable providers with an established record of professionalism and integrity. I would take this further and reduce my contacts to a smaller list of regulars I have a good relationship with. I realize this is a self-serving statement but there are many others who are equally committed to acting in good faith, I’m sure you could make a great list of those.

Well put....

I made this comment recently in another thread. Who knows who is responding to your text or email. It could very well be some fat dude sitting in his basement in his boxers crushing darts trolling the internet... As much as we enjoy the world at our finger tips. The opportunities to infiltrate are more than any of us appreciate.

Many insist on a deposit for outcalls, no doubt because they frequently get ghosted or stood up and it wastes their time. I don't think that's unreasonable. If they are doing it just to scam money, that's another story. Again, the key is to stick with reliable providers.

This is an example of a SP/MA whose account was allegedly hacked, and is making money off deposit scam.

She claims this account was hacked a while ago, but with how many providers and spas get their twitter accounts suspended from "haters" reporting them, I've been curious how this account is still active if it really has been hacked.

And when you get one with auto deposit no password how do you deal with that?

I’ve asked my bank to have an option to insist on password on etrans. at least that way they can get password when they show up.

Yes, I saw that. I really don’t know the story personally but do know some who I can say for certain were hacked and it is disturbingly hard to get your account back 😳 I’m assuming this is because someone could also use this claim as a tactic to steal your account. Suspended accounts are a completely divergent issue related to violating the TOS on Twitter/X. Being hacked is due to lax passwords or clicking links in phishing emails.

Everyone has their own system to protect data and identity theft. I keep a branded phone number so that people know they’re speaking directly with me, take email inquiries through a secure portal from my website, I don’t click links in emails nor text, use biometrics and appropriate passwords, two-factor authentication and advertising like Tryst that requires ID verification.

Scammers aren’t going anywhere and will always be one step ahead so just when you think you have a foolproof system, will adapt new techniques. I’ve also observed that, just as anyone can put a profile online, anyone can also take your fee at the door and then ask you (or force you) to leave. This is why I think the best approach is to simply remove the market for scammers and only deal with trusted professionals.

I noticed you mentioned websites, what if the provider doesn’t have her own website but has online profiles? I mean I personally don’t have my own website, but I have my twitter, my only fans plus I’m on the website for the spa I currently work at, and I post pictures almost daily (as well as some personal photos) and I know lots of other girls who operate the same way who have also started to ask for deposits from new clients, so would you say having a website or not is a deciding factor, or just having a legit online presence versus one that’s been easily fabricated?
Apologies if my post is inappropriate here, not trying to advertise or anything, just curious

Also to miss @Theredmilf do you mind if I reach out to you via DMs on Twitter? I’ve been following you since I started in Ottawa and would really love to chat sometime :) I always learn so much from your posts (your new program for SWers for example is an inspiration, sincerely)

Lexi

You bring up a very valid point and I should digress. I have followed you in the past on Twitter, and that sort of online presence is exactly what I’m talking about. It gives a client the opportunity to vet or ease any suspicion of authenticity. I guess what I was trying to communicate was the online presence or footprint the www can do for everyone involved. Thank you for your input on that. Keep being you.

Hi Lexi, thanks for your comment 🙏 it’s a good question! I’m tied up the next little while but will write in a day or two when I have time to put together a thoughtful response.

Absolutely & it would be my pleasure ☺ Thanks also for mentioning the PD Fund for sex workers, you actually just gave me an idea ☺🤗 For those wondering why initiative Lexi is talking about, here is our website built by none other than the fabulous McKenna King through her company Pixel Pleasures:
