Would you rather time travel to the past or the future...

This is very easy for me.
The past. If I had to put an era on it likely somewhere in the 17 or 18 hundreds.

When life was far simpler, when the world was still being explored. At its simplest very popular memes on Facebook were there’ms a picture of an idyllic cabin in woods. Tens of thousands “want that life”. But probably haven’t thought that life means no electricity, no convenience, no internet to stay entertained, no heated bathrooms when it’s -30, nor hot water, etc and so on. But also no humanity as far as the eye can see and a world to discover.

yeah very easy question to answer.

For sure I would go back to the past. The future looks bleak and no fun whatsoever. It would be even better going back to the past while keeping the knowledge and wisdom I gained in life up until today. I would be able to make some different decisions in life and make a lot more money lol. Going back and spending more time with those I have lost in life would be a plus too.

I would go back in time and hang out with my grandfather when he was a young man.

Then I’d move forward in time and check in with my Dad when he was a young man.

Then I’d go visit myself at that same age…around age 18-22.

Then I’d go back to 1972 and do a re-set from there.

Before modern medicine and the industrial revolution, life was abysmal for almost everyone. Poverty, malnutrition, untreatable disease, and labor intensive work was life. It is all that 99.9% of humans that have ever lived have known.

Over the past 50 or so years we've been living in the best of times (primarily for a small subset of us born in the West). The future will be far worse than the present.

If you didn't or couldn't enjoy this time period, you'd be a washout in any other period of human existence.

Life was simpler. No anesthetic if you got hacked up or blown up in the Napoleonic wars or the American Civil War. So amputations done with a hand saw.
The world was still being explored and "look what we found mom! Slaves!!"
No proper painless dentistry. Serfdom with no travel of your patch of ground further than 30 miles at the most. Big cities with no sewage. Shit running in the street.

Life was different, to be sure. That doesn’t mean those that lived during those times didn’t enjoy life, weren’t happy. Maybe not everyone feels the need to live to their 80s, suffer from dementia and more?

we (humans) are the only organism on the planet that thinks we should live forever and does everything they can to cheat time and death. And with birth rates going down near everywhere, longevity is outpacing. Canada for example is getting older. You think people in LTCs enjoyed the past few years

look around the world today, populations, cities, many areas running out of fresh water, etc and so on.

are we better off for it?
Many will say no.

Future. I have, like many others I suspect, have idealized the past and visiting it might be a very large disappointment. The future on the other hand is new and unexplored and thus might be a chance for exciting new experiences

La la land
I would go 25 years into the future to see what happens to some people and the hot chicks I know. How they passed and why. What they have achieved and me also.

Then I would go back 5003 years back, asking for the Aliens to give me a ride out of this place.

Anyway. I would go back to 1963. Whole boatload of pussy I missed out on starting from back then. But I missed the boat. I would like one more shot.
Swinging England in the swinging sixties. Right place. Right time. Wrong guy..... Now I know why they were always telling me "If I knew then what I know now" but they wouldn't tell me. That and trying not to miss every opportunity that was handed to me on a plate but was too dumb to see them.

I think there is a typo in the title but the members who posted so far are smart so we know what you mean.

Update: Correction to title made.

Most people would probably say they would like to go to the past, so they can know what to invest in and become super rich. But if you’re a true adventurer, you really want to go to the future, maybe 1000 years from now just to see what this world is going to be like.
Would we be able to travel to other planets?
Would we have contact with lifeforms from other planets?
,So many questions, it would be truly fascinating.

I so agree with you. I wanna know how it's gonna end too. Is there even an end?

Past, for three reasons:

1) To visit lost loved ones and potentially save them. Discovering that cancer just a little bit sooner could have made all the difference.
2) Correct some of my past mistakes.
3) Take my knowledge of the future to invest appropriately, then come back to the present and reap the rewards of a fat investment portfolio.
