Funny but I was wanting to put a thread about this very subject before the article. Here's a list of broadcasters that I just cannot stand:
Jamie Campbell/Pat Tabler - These are two of the most boring human beings covering the most boring sport. Neither adds anything to the broadcast.
Nick Kypreos - Shouldn't you be able to speak without the stutter of someone who has taken too many shots to the head to actually be an effective talking head?
Bill Watters - It's amazing how many crappy Leafs personnel are in media and have no business being in it.
Sam Cosentino - I'm not sure if this is the guy but the one who does the play-by-play for Sportsnet CHL games has the most annoying voice in the history of broadcasting. Can't even watch.
Chuck Swirsky - Somebody buy this guy a dictionary and underline the word "unbiased". Yes, he's doing the home broadcast but he puts the "ho" in "homer".
Bill Walton - Drugs are bad.
Bryan Gumbel/Chris Collingsworth - I'd like to live in the States and not get the NFL Network.
Brian Baldinger - He's a colour commentator for Fox regional NFL broadcasts. This guy never gets anything right. I hate to listen to him screw up every single video challenge that comes up during his games.
Kenny Albert - Annoying voice. Living off his last name?
And the man that I'm surprised has not been mentioned and deserves to be ...
John Madden - This guy is ten years past his prime. He's now a charicature of himself. If you listen to him and then go back to the context of the game, he adds absolutely nothing to a telecast. His picture is beside the definition of "obvious". Plus his man love for Favre and Romo just makes him even more irritating in my eyes.
Broadcasts that I do enjoy ...
Nessler/Griese/Maguirre - Good chemistry. Almost as good as the old ESPN Sunday night NFL team of Patrick/Thiesmann/Maguirre. I though Patrick and Maguirre helped keep Thiesmann's ego partially in check.
Hubie Brown and Doug Collins - Both of these guys are terrific at breakdowning basketball plays. Plus, each isn't that far removed from the game not add relevant personal experiences with players.
Jim Hughson - Good voice and sharp play-by-play.
Mike Tirico - Same as Hughson but with versatility.
