I wouldn't get too attached to those numbers. As they learn more of the way the virus works, they will get a better handle on how to estimate this. There is always going to be a lot of ambiguity. (Look at flu death estimates.)

Those numbers of deaths that was leaked from Iran of 42,000 deaths from the Coronavirus is from July 20 which at the time was more than 3X what the Iranian government had reported of 14,000 deaths from the Coronavirus.
The actual number in Iran is more than likely at least 3X what they are currently reporting of 24,000, due to other factors such as certain regions of the country not having proper medical infrastructure to even track cases and deaths properly.
We will never get anything close to the real number in India and many middle east and other asian countries.
