I kind of agree with the water or oil reasoning. Canada has a ton of fresh water and oil. China needs the oil. So does the US. The US in a few years may even need the water and they will get it, somehow or the other. By that time, Canada will be a state of the US.
The United States is so seriously fucked up that it's more likely that the US will become a protectorate of Canada. Stupidly in debt (thanks, Dubya), the Second Amendment whackos, pastors burning Korans and the resurging KKK... it's time someone actually took charge, because CLEARLY they can't manage it on their own.

The US does not have a fresh water problem. The forecast for the US WRT water supply is Green for the rest of this century. What the US does have is various regional water problems (ie. a water distribution problem). They are self-sustaining wrt water for the foreseeable future, nearly as solid as Canada is in that regard. They have to figure out how to get water more evenly distributed across the states.

And, recall that the US water shortage are not related to water for drinking, but to water for golf courses, lawns, car washes, pools, etc. Water wars may sound "cool", but they're fiction.

This is a silly thread, the military power today is far to destructive to ever be used in an all out war like WWII..... Simply stated, the US could destroy any 10 countries at will within 24 hours.... and everyone knows it.

Terrorism and insurrection are the new threats (ala AQ and Mexico).

The threat is not high at present.

However, a word of caution is that most people (figuratively) never see the fuse being laid to the powder keg, nor even the powder keg itself until after it has blown up.

Witness the Murder of H.I.H. Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife., the German Invasion of Poland, the Calling of the Estates General etc. . .
The German invasion of Poland could have been stopped in 1938, actually it should have been stopped at that point. The actions that lead up to the WW1 had been progressing for 8 or 10 years prior to that. Most of these things can be forseen if people would actually look at what is happening as opposed to what they think is happening

The next big concern would be an expansion of the Iranian theocracy to include Saudi Arabia and the associated gulf states. If thaey werer all consolidated under theocratic control we would have major peoblems. The good news is the various sects hate each other as much as they hate us, so barring a really ambitious, driven leader it will not happen

Which Landscaper was part of my point. Hindsight is always 20/20, seeing the signs and interpreting them accurately beforehand vastly more difficult.

Iran may not be and frankley they have enough of their own problems at present. The Imams who run the behind the scenes power structure in Iran could have other plans . They probably do have other plans but until the whole country is pacified it is not a serious problem.
