I was wondering who is eligible to receive a world series ring? I was just thinking of Frank Thomas. If he receives a ring, he should be ashame of himself. If he does not receive a ring, then it'll be odd since many players will get one except for him and he's been playing for the White Sox his entire career. How about players that play in all 162 games but get injured in the last game and miss the entire playoffs? Do they get a ring?

to qualify, you have to play X number of games in the regular season at least, I dont know how many games he played for them this season...

Nomar got one last year after he was traded...

I heard that Nomar got a ring out of good gesture by the Red Sox. They did not have to give him one. (That's what I heard. Don't take my word for it)

Do you think a player that does not play in the playoffs deserves a ring if his team wins? I mean, many teams make it to the playoffs but only one wins. Granted the player helped his team make it to the playoffs but, to be a champion, you have to win the playoffs.

btw, Frank Thomas played 34 games for the White Sox this season. Many of them as a 1 at-bat pinch hitter. He batted 219.

I'm not really sure how it works, but I have to believe if a guy really did play the entire season and got injured right before the post-season, that he'd get a ring. In the case of Thomas, the bum only played in 34 games this year. Nomah played in only 38 games last year for the Red Sox, so I really don't know how they decide.

It's up to the team to decide. Entirely.

World Series Rings...

As noted there are no rules..it's strictly up to the team who decides and then funds the expenditure. In addition to the actual players they give them out to front office staff, owners, administration etc. ;)

The ring is one thing...a share of the playoff money is another thing.

I think it's entirely up to the team for the rings. In the CFL, even the Argos Cheerleaders got Grey Cup rings last year. I think the Stanley Cup is the only situation where there are hard and fast rules as to who's name is engraved on it.

I wasn't criticising them. Infact, I believe that no matter who wins the Super Bowl, the Dallas Cowboy Cheeleaders should get rings. :D

I don't believe he should be denied a ring, simply because he had an injury and/or didn't play very much during the season. Every team has some bench players who seldom play, and they all get rings if they're on the active or injured roster.

even the security guards get the world series rings. I knew one guy that guraded the locker room at the sky dome when the jays won the world series in 1992 and he got one for that year then retired. The stanley cup is the best because only a certian amount of people get their name on it.

In 1992 when the Blue Jays won the World Series, Dave Steib was injured and did not play that year. He was on the roster during the regular Season but not in the playoffs, The Blue Jays made a great gesture to him for his loyal service to the ball club and they let him be part of the team in the playoffs and was in the dugout for all post season games. Dave Steib was a great pitcher for the Blue jays in the 80's , there is not one Blue jay fan that wasn't happy to see Dave Steib finally get a ring whether or not he earned it. As for who gets a ring or not is up to the winning team. Some teams give everyone in the organisation a ring including all the office staff. Normally all roster players during the regular season will get a ring. This is not the olympics where coaches don't get a medal.

Wow, I didn't know Steib got a ring in '92. I thought it was karma for being an asshole.

I guess I can live with it.

Bench players seldom play but they are available when they are needed. They can give what they can. Frank Thomas wasn't availabe.

o.k., let me change the question then. Can Frank Thomas(and Normar for that matter) honestly call himself a World Series champion and put that in his resume?

Even though Frank Thomas was injured most of the season , and he was not on the post season roster, he was on the reagular season roster, and he did officially have at bats he should be entitled to a ring because the fact he is an asshole shouldn't have any bearing on it. Put yourself in that position. You played for 15 plus years on a bad team. The team is finally good and you at the end of your career and your injured at playoff time. Your team wins the World Series and you team wants to give you a ring......Will you take it or will you Pass. Hell I have no pride, I would take it in a heart beat.

If you ever see the video again of the last out in the jays 92 World Series win, Dave Steib is the first one out of the dugout and he slips when he gets to the pile.

He wasn't injured at playoff time. He was injured way before that. He played for the White Sox for 15 years and had years when the team was good. They just did not win anything during those years. How's that for a kicker. The only year that your team wins it all is the year that you are injured and contributed almost nothing. Geez, I hope this does not contribute to his HOF credentials.

Frank Thomas:

2-MVP
1-Batting Title
1-World Series Championship... LMAO

Agreed. And he'll get a share of the money. These guys make enough so that for most of them I don't think the amount they get for winning is large compared to their salaries. Anyone know how much they get to divvy up?

Next to the money pit.
Frank Thomas should get a ring

It is always my understanding that if a player contribute in the regular season to help the team to the playoff, then that player would be entitle to a ring. Even if that player is traded half way through the season, he still gets a ring.
