So I turned into the Canada/South Africa game last night, expecting at the very least to be entertained. What I got was 3.5 hours of boring baseball.
The final 3 innings were I guess "exciting" as it was a see saw battle back and forth. In the end, we won. I suppose that's the main thing.
I know South Africa has 1 player from the Majors, and Canada has - umm - 12? Fine. Not a stellar match up to say the least - but at least it could be entertaining?? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. It was like watching the Little League World Series...nothing against kids who play, but they are kids...it's all about small ball for them. Lots of bunts. Steals. Hit and run. This was the game Canada played, despite the fact we have Jason Bay, Matt Stairs, Stubby Clapp, and Justin Morneau in the lineup.
Will we beat the Americans? NO.
Will we make it into the 2nd round? Probably.
Is watching this event a waste of time? The jury is still out.
It's a shame - I like international competition in sport - hockey, basketball...but I guess baseball is a whole different kettle of fish.
