"Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos has filed a complaint against the worker, alleging he was misappropriating funds,"

Since the 'hard earned salary bonus' was placed into his account without any effort or planning on his part - is 'misappropriating' accurate ?

I wonder what the following paycheck of the company's accountant looked like after this event.

The accountant is probably screwed, even though they are pretty much at the mercy of the techies these days.
The guy checks his account one day and finds way to much money. Can't say he overlooked that. Since he was a bank employee the possibility that he somehow had a hand in it can't be overlooked. Anyway, this happens to you and right away you check with the bank. If not you are fundamentally crooked. Misappropriating funds is putting it mildly...

Can't claim innocence when a windfall arrives in your bank account and you don't return it. It's obviously a mistake and he should have paid it back, minus any fees associated with the transaction.

I’m too honest. I was given a hundred in a stack of twenties at the ATM once and I turned it in for the $20 it was suppose to give me. LOL.
That is only an $80 overpayment. The administrative cost, paperwork , not to mention your time - I'm sure they would have appreciated if you just kept the money. (My theory when it spits out $100 bills instead of $10 bills)

There used to be a phone booth around High Park that spat out dimes when I hung up. Back in the seventies. I started using it regularly for the payout. Never felt guilty about sticking it to Ma Bell. But that's how I roll.

Once, many many years ago, when I lived in California, the bank deposited $46,000 instead of $460.

Interestingly, the bank was quite annoyed, when I told them. At first they denied having made a mistake. I had expected they would thank me for telling them, but they were pretty rude.

Nothing probably would have happened. And who knows. Maybe the teller kept the $80 but I don’t know ….. I just couldn’t steal it. Lame I know right?!?!? LOL

Not lame at all. You have intrinsic morals. More people should take after you.
As opposed to people who have extrinsic morals, fearing some kind of retribution.
Or those without morals, who would keep the money.

Never call a bank and tell them they screwed up. They will never admit the error.
Several years back the same incident happened to me. I did not say a word, left the money as is and a few weeks later the bank made a debit entry and corrected their error.
No apology or an email explaining why they made the transactions.

ATM's have cameras so every transaction is recorded, your face. It's best to be honest and return what does not belong to you.
Avoids complications. Glad you were honest.
