Not familiar with the OPs other posts so not sure why so many are giving him a tough time. I agree it's a generalization and not all the women working downtown are like this but I would agree with MissCroft in regards to some of the younger females behaving in such fashion. Maybe partly due to work stress and lack of time for most people being indifferent or unfriendly. Quite a few times when approaching doors in the PATH the lady on the other side would wait for me to open the door and then briskly walk through without even a thank you. I make sure to be polite when extended the same courtesy. Proper manners as a whole seem to escape a lot of folks these days. Maybe it is an entitlement mentality.

I truly believe this is a side effect of social media and internet, as well as single parenthood which has become ram pend in the last 20 years . JMT

Directly above the center of the earth
I've been out of the dating game for many years, but it pains me to say this attitude is not new. One memory comes to mind. A group of us were at the home of one of my female classmates to work on a group project. As we were waiting for everyone to arrive, the girls started talking about guys and dating. One thing they shared was, what makes them say yes when asked on a date. I couldn't decide if I was more appalled by what they were saying or by how totally shameless they were about saying it. 'I would never go out with a guy that didn't have his own car.' 'He has to have at least two credit cards before I would even consider going out with him.' I had never heard this kind of talk in my hometown, a city out west- although I'm sure there was gold diggers there as well. And even though I was better off than your average student, I chose to live below my means, for exactly this reason.

Girls who are glamorous can be fun, but they are high maintenance, and after a while it becomes tiresome.
Dawn Wells, who makes regular appearances at boat shows and stuff, said that guys will often tell her 'I dated a Ginger but I married a Mary Ann.' She said she hears this regularly.

I think Toronto, and probably Vancouver, are like New York in that respect. They are expensive places, so this definitely influences people's priorities.

I can understand golddiggers because you can't fault a weak person for trying to make the best of what she has in life - her one shot at a good life. But what makes me shake my head are women with unrealistic expectations of men and total failure on self-awareness front:

a. A 5ft5 chick saying she won't date anyone less than 6ft
b. A chick who hasn't done university lay out expectations a mile long - what do you bring to the table?
c. A 35 year old woman who expects a guy to be Dr Brad Pitt, have traveled the world, studied with the Dalai Lama, scaled Everest, won 40 under 40 etc etc while she's employed in a union job as a teacher. Gimme a break! :)

Shallow, superficial and just plain deluded is what I don't understand.

And right about Toronto vs NYC except this ain't nothing like NYC - this is the poor man's pseudo New York!

They're glued to their cell phones to satiate their need of adoration, comments, their likes on their pictures, etc.
A girl I dated has a youtube channel now, which in turn feeds her twitter, instagram feeds and she just looks for comments and only replies to commenters who compliment her.
Otherwise if you say anything else, she ignores it. So clearly it's an ego thing.
Superficial to the Nth degree. Pretty sad because she always got attention, but I guess it's never enough with twitter, instagram around now.

I can't stand downtown Toronto, the rat race mentality, the attitudes. I'd rather hang with a girl that is comfortable in jeans/joggers, hair in a ponytail and ready to do whatever.

This is true. (But I'm not like that!)

However, there are also a lot of men out there who have similar expectations while they themselves are nothing to write home about. So it's not just women - trust me.

That always shocks me - the number of people I see practically walking into oncoming traffic without even looking because they're on their phones. Some will be Darwin Award winners.

Only a matter of time before they get hit by a car. Make sure your volume is on, the play by play is great.

I do trust you, but all the same, can you give an example or two?

Some guys who aren't that attractive still expect to date models. I know guys like this - they're usually single and can't get laid.
I think physical attractiveness does play a role, but personality and demeanor goes a longer way
Example being, I've seen sps that are DDG, but have been more attracted to the ladies who have disarming personalities and maturity.
I'm sure a lot would disagree but that's just me.

I agree. Personality and the mind boost if not trump physical appeal.
