I have done that line with a woman who I knew, that was giving was giving positive signals whenever we met . Then I saw her standing alone and I felt she was waiting for me to come over. I slowly walked over thinking of what to say, better than hello, and that came out. Worked very well but it was not cold as there had been signals. If she had not known me it could have fallen flat depending on the her intelligence and if she was interested. But, because I was interested I said it, if I was not interested I would not as it is a signal I am interested.

I remember a retired, known but not overly well known sports athlete was hosting a meet and greet (maybe a book signing or something) at a bar and he'd been chatting away, then got up to go get a drink at the bar as some middle aged woman about his age was having a drink alone at the bar and she looked at him and he innocently said "hi - are you here for me?" And she responded "I don't know - am i?" LOL
