The problem being who exactly? The French? Or the crazed right wing, American Zealots who wrote that clap trap for US News and World Reports which is nothing more than a paper cheerleading squad for the US administration.

The Americans are just as guilty of everything the French did there. For years, due to his anti-islamist secular views, Saddam was America's golden boy in the Middle East.

I'm not disagreeing that the French actions at the UN weren't wrong, but that article demonstrates more of the problem with the American Administration than it does the one with the French gov't.

Why is it that any articles with ANTI-AMERICAN slants are heralded as the absolute truth???? And those with PRO-AMERICAN stances are decried as propaganda?????

Bang on papa...

I guess perspective is about the position of the viewer! This is what makes debating topics like this and others so very difficult.

Who cried propaganda? It's an editorial. Of course, it would be a little more interesting if the inline links actually linked to the topics being discussed, but I don't know if Yahoo or the author included them.

I suppose the "propaganda" comments were directed to my reply about this article. Yes I do think that article is one sided and borders on propaganda. However, I would also have said the same thing if an equally unreasoned anti-american article were at the other end of the link.

That is the whole problem with this confilct. Its opposing camps have both become very closed minded and dichotomous in their approach to things. The failure for global consensus on this issue is in my opinion, shared by both camps.

It has been said here before on this board, we seem to be living in a time where people take what ever they read as the truth. Nothing could be futher from the truth now. Most articles out there are written by either rabid anti-americans or their equally rabid pro-american counter parts. Bias in the press is nothing new but in this case the two sides are very vehement about their views and the tension between them sells newspapers and magazines.

I think it is sad how few journalists out there are willing to really try and get at root causes, which are complex, and instead opt to blame everything on either a pro or anti american ideology.

I'm not so sure that they aren't trying to get at the root cause. It's the complexity of the issues dating back many many years that leads people to label the journalists as pro this or anti that. I don't believe that there is a black and white answer to everthing. At some point the journalist has to decide what is and what is not relevant to the story. That's where people start to question the motives of journalists.

The causes date back a long way and we really haven't learned that there are reprocussions tomarrow for what we do today.

That is so true. Another one of the most absurd arguements that the liberal/anti-war/US-bashers have is that Cretin showed "courage" and "principle" to say no to the war. It's the exact opposite. It is a lack of courage and principles. He does what the poles tell him to do, a classic case of liberal "Followership" and he always takes the easiest, least resistance path. Shamefull.

I think the man of the hour is Tony Blair. Talk about courage and principles.

The article makes an excellent point of how the French are motivated by economic self interest and jealousy for US power.

The

French were playing politics, trying to make the US look bad and move themselves back into the spotlight. I don't think they are going to enjoy the rest of this decade getting the cold shoulder from the US. I was at a book store yesterday and herd a kid ask for a color book, his father took one look at it and said, no we can't get that, it's French. Want to bet that London and not Paris will be the hot summer vacation destination?
