My wife of 30 years is going in next week for a mastecomy. The cancer came back. Obviously the good news is that this is curative... and obviously the sad news is that it is a life changing thing for her, me, kids and friends.

I'll be honest and say that I have no idea how to help her more than I already do, as neither of us have had to face anything like this. We have a nurse assigned, and there are support groups we are now attached to, but still!

love the one you're with..

thanks to all. The operation is on Monday at noon. May I give a special thanks to Lasslicker for the link. This seems to be a good resource and a nice place to start for us, and we'll follow it up.

I thought some would like to know that all went well. The surgeons and staff were terrific, the operation a success, and we are moving forward, happy in the knowledge that what she had was curable.
Thanks to all who replied here and by pm. Greatly appreciated.

Wit Jo Mama
Hey Seymore, glad to see everything went well.
The battle is not over yet friend. My mother had a masectomy and the times that followed were tough as well. She will experience tremendous mood swings. You have to be very patient and show a tremendous amount of love and compassion. Good luck on the road ahead.
Cheers.
