Seems you are not alone in that opinion. The Waukesha County Clerk apparently had a few up her sleeve.

Interesting that you would think that since the votes from that town were obviously not previously tallied.

A Democrat member of the County Canvassing Board publicly stated at a news conference that the County Clerk was being truthful: "We went over everything and made sure that all the numbers jived up, and they did."

When the recount is done as almost certainly it will be, it would be rather hard to disguise phony ballets.

I regret not saying this before.....it seems everytime there is a close vote like this one side or the other pulls"missing votes" out of their pants.it really does make suspect the entire voting process.I don't think the U.S has been a more divided nation since before the civil war.

Especially since the Waukesha County Clerk was previously involved in cases of election fraud, in which a number of prominent Republicans went to jail, and is a free woman only because she got immunity from prosecution in exchange for appearing in court as a witness.

Maybe her numbers are accurate but the whole situation certainly does not instill confidence in American democracy.

Prosser Now Up 7,000+ Votes After Error Is Corrected

5:57 PM, APR 7, 2011 • BY STEPHEN F. HAYES

Supreme Court justice David Prosser has picked up more than 7,381 votes in Waukesha County, a conservative county outside of Milwaukee, as part of the statewide canvass following the election for Supreme Court on Tuesday. The total gives Prosser a comfortable lead as the canvass continues Friday.

The error came when Waukesha County clerk Kathy Nickolaus failed to save some 14,000 votes that came from wards in Brookfield before passing the vote total along to the Associated Press. County officials discovered the mistake Wednesday and shared the information with state election officials on Thursday. Prosser won Waukesha County with more than 70 percent of the vote there.

This was not a mandate. This was an"oops look what i just found.Just enough votes to put my former boss over the top and avoid any type of recount".

Politics is dirty..win anyway you can.....but honestly....this was kind of stupid of the Republicans. As this story begins to unravel and this ladies shady past and ties come to light on a national level they'll be more to this.

I think they'll realize that this was not a very good operation.I've only been investigating the circumstances a few hours and I can see some things don't add up from a technical and coincidental level.

The clerk's history of electoral fraud doesn't diminish your confidence in her in any way?

Where is the evidence of this purported prior incident of electoral fraud?

One would have to be mind bogglingly stupid to think that they would be able to get away with it, if it actually is electoral fraud.

You're not aware that she was given immunity from prosecution in 2002 in exchange for appearing as a witness for the prosecution in the trial and conviction for electoral fraud of several members of the assembly Republican Caucus?

That trial ended with felony convictions for the speaker of the Wisconsin assembly and the Wisconsin senate majority leader. It's a matter of public record.

She may indeed be telling the truth about forgetting to press "ctrl-s" on her computer, but it does not exactly instill confidence to have a woman with that sort of checkered past in that job under these circumstances.

Nickolaus was given immunity from prosecution in a 2002 criminal investigation into illegal activity by members of the assembly Republican Caucus. She worked for 13 years as a data analyst and computer specialist for the caucus.

She resigned from her state job in 2002 just before launching her county clerk campaign.

The corruption probe took down then-Assembly Speaker Scott Jensen, a Republican; Senate Majority Leader Chuck Chvala, D-Madison; Sen. Brian Burke, D-Milwaukee, co-chairman of the powerful Joint Finance Committee; Assembly Majority Leader Steve Foti, R-Oconomowoc; and Rep. Bonnie Ladwig, R-Racine. They all reached plea deals.

Is there a link to a newspaper or news magazine article about it that provides more information than the AP article? Merely because someone is given immunity in exchange for testimony does not necessarily mean that they had their hand in the cookie jar.

In a case such as the AP mentions it is quite likely that any allegation would have been that she was an accessory after the fact in that she did not "rat them out" rather than that she was herself involved in malfeasance. However, this remains speculation without better information than that provided by the AP.
