Olympics are always a conflicting time for me. Being chinese as well, i want chinese athletes to do well but i also know how the CCP use these athletes as soft power pawns for their global ambitions.

As for Eileen Gu, she is definitely a hottie however if i were american id feel betrayed that she used all the advantages of american institutions and freedoms and chose to represent a nation that suppresses these democratic ideals. She refuses to comment on the CCP human rights abuses but has plenty to say about the "oppression" in the U.S.

If you read the chinese internet, a lot of netizens are not a fan of hers at all.

On some level, i do have a bit of sympathy for Gu. Im sure making a life changing decision at 15 is not easy especially being heavily influenced by her mom. At age 15 she probably had no idea about china's brutal history and definitely had no ideas regarding geopolitics. But at this point, she is now owned by the CCP. She has to perform interviews on chinese state media, like Peoples Daily or Global Times. She can not say anything negative about the CCP regime and im sure gets a dossier on what to say about America and the west.

It is unfortunate as it seems a lot of the american public are angered by her. She is also not popular with segments of chinese netizens who often refer to her 二鬼子 (2nd hand devil/ghost), 香蕉人 (banana person) or 假洋鬼子 (fake overseas devil or sellout)
