Because they want to accommodate people who want to see both games? Same reason the NFL Conference finals aren't played at the same time. Not to mention that the semis are on Friday and they want to give the two best teams more time to rest. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it stupid.
They could have scheduled both Bronze and Gold medal games on Saturday at 12noon and 3pm EST time respectively.
That would be 6pm and 9pm Toronto time. Same time slots they play European Champions L. Matches in

They could have, but they didn't because:

**Best-on-best hockey is the Crown jewel of the Olympics. They want to showcase it as one of the last events.
**The second semi-final will finish ~6pm on Friday, Toronto time. A 24hr turnaround time for the winner isn't ideal, and many would be complaining about the 'stupid scheduling' if they did that.

No ICE at a Winter Olympics. Good luck with that.

On a serious note, a majority of Italians are fed up with immigration in Italy. Meloni has take tougher stands against migration to Italy.

You will always find people everywhere who will protest things that are the decision of the majority.
Yesh, there are always those in the minority who will not only protest, but who will also actively and unlawfully engage in overturning the will of the majority.

Case in point, the 2020 USA presidential election culminating in the assault of the Capitol building where the peaceful transfer of power from the minority to the majority was to occur.

Got anymore neat and tidy quips?

Hockey, the "Crown jewel of the Olympics", says who?

Maybe from a Canadian perspective but not from a European perspective.

The early, early in the morning start time of the Gold medal game evidences exactly what the Europeans think about the Canadian-centric view as hockey being the "Crown Jewel" of the Olympics.

I think you want to believe I somehow disagree with your post.

So basically, I think a lot of protests express the will of the minority. The majority perspective they oppose is also not always neatly categorized as left or right.

I hope that clears up your confusion. If you actually read my post without predetermined bias, you would have realized that it was a fairly accurate observation of Italian political sentiment.

Hockey is certainly a feature for North American and some European hockey audiences.
I would say individual figure skating is a big deal globally. The winners are the King and Queen of the ice.
Alpine skiing probably draws a lot of European eyes. I think it's great.

A Brazilian man won a gold medal in skiing today. Brazil, the country of beaches and tropical jungle. Meanwhile, Canada, a nation of ice and snow, has no gold medals. What’s up with that?

We are having a poor Olympics so far. Medal count is 0-3-5 good for T10 overall. Four years ago we finished 4th in total medals with 4-8-14. Here's how our best bets for gold have fared so far

Women's curling. The Homan rink is currently 1-2 in round robin play. Losses to the US and the UK each by 1.
Men's curling. The Jacobs rink was 3-0 but they just lost this morning to the Swiss by a score of 9-5. Tied for 3rd place so far.
Men's ice hockey. We are definitely looking like the team to beat. Dominant so far.
Women's ice hockey. Currently 3-1 with a bad loss to the US. Still should be at least good enough for silver as the competition is poor.
Courtney Sarault women's short track speed skating. Currently has a bronze in the 500. Her specialty is the 1000 where's she's ranked 1st. That is still to come.
William Dandjinou men's short track speed skating. Was the favorite but finished 4th in the 1000, out of the medals. Let's see what he does in the 1500 which is being run today.
Reece Howden men's ski cross. Still tbd. It doesn't run until later in the Olympic schedule.

Canadian curler tells the Swede to fuck off after the Swede accuses the Canadian of cheating.

World Curling finds no violations after cheating allegations rock Canada-Sweden curling match

World Curling has addressed the cheating allegations that rocked Friday night’s round-robin game between Canada and Sweden, concluding that "no violations were recorded" during the umpires’ observations that followed the claims.

Tensions flared when Sweden’s Oskar Eriksson accused Canada’s Marc Kennedy of double-touching the stone. Videos shared online appeared to show Kennedy touching the stone with an extended finger after he released the handle.

The two opponents exchanged words when Eriksson said, "Maybe it’s okay touching the rock after the hog line, I don’t know."

Kennedy then fired back, "Who’s doing it? I haven’t done it once, you can f--- off."

The two continued to exchange words, but it was Kennedy who used profanities to express his displeasure with the accusations.

"Come on Oskar, just f--- off."

World Curling released a statement Saturday addressing the controversy – both the accusations and Kennedy’s sportsmanship.

"Game Umpires are situated at the end of each sheet and physically cannot see every delivery infraction. However, when they are made aware of delivery issues, game umpires are positioned to observe the delivery for three ends. During this period of observation in the Friday evening game, there were no violations recorded," the statement began, noting that video replay is not used during games and an umpire’s call is final.

The sports governing body also addressed two rule concerns, including "double-touching" and touching the granite. According to the rules, players can retouch the handle multiple times, but "touching the handle after the hog line is not allowed and will result in the stone being removed from play."

Additionally, the stone will be removed from play if the granite is touched at all during "forward motion."

As a result of the allegations, World Curling said that two officials will be positioned to observe all deliveries beginning with Saturday’s games.

That is obviously no surprise.

Canada is having a bad go of it. Italy and even Japan appear to be having a good Olympics.

Based on this, Canada really needs that gold in Men's Hockey.

Our plan was around 25 medals this Olympics, we might not make it to 20 the way it's going right now. Thankfully our Speed Skaters showed up.

''

The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic committees have lobbied the federal government on behalf of national sport organizations (NSOs) for an increase in core funding, with the latest ask a $144-million raise in 2025.

Core funding is money all NSOs count on to fund operations, athletes, coaches and support staff, and they say it hasn’t increased since 2005. It’s been described as the “blood in the veins” of an organization.''

Don't get your expectations up....

They always do. Mostly thanks to cross country skiing events.
You might say mostly thanks to too many cross country skiing events. That's just my opinion.
