Microsoft has a $39 upgrade offer for Windows 8 here

All you have to do is say you bought a Windows 7 computer after June 2 and you get the OS.

It is a full install and will not check for Windows 7.

That threw me off a bit. It's a full upgrade on a existing Windows machine, not a full install (starting from scratch, no previous version of Windows).
