in an elevator...going up to ??
i've tried different configs for the win7 and you'll need at least 1 gig ram to run with any decency and 2 gigs recommended...processor around 1.8 and up is ok...i find that the win7 and explorer 9 to be a big headache...lots of compatibility issues, hanging or delayed or no response with multiple windows open...i also like win7 over win8 and will be hanging on until the one after...

seriously, if your computer won't run windows 7 because of resources, it's time to upgrade. but why are you thinking about it? is there something you want to do that xp won't let you? i recommend upgrading just to be aware of the ui. and to be current. but if all you do is 'net and word/excel it won't matter.

I currently have XP on my computer. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to Windows 7?
Depends how old your PC is.
What are its specs?

I'm planning to get a Core 2 Dual with 2 GB RAM which I can easily upgrade to 4 GB RAM. I'm happy with XP but was told that Windows 7 is better by a co-worker.

It's better. Didn't you bring this up before, or was that someone else?
Wouldn't a core i5 processor be slightly more in terms of price, but not astronomically more? (including motherboard, memory along for the ride $)?
It'd run faster definitely.

W7 is better but XP and even Vista are all rock solid. Vista is a bit of a resource hog though. W7 runs lean and mean. I have all 3 but still think Linux is better and is my main OS now.

Yes, this is related to the IBM Core 2 Duo computer that was used as a server in my neighbor daughter's office. In order to convert this server to a regular P.C., I have to install an O/S. A friend of a friend suggested LINUX MINT but I am not familiar with Linux. Therefore, I am considering XP or Windows 7. Is it even possible to buy XP now or has Microsoft taken it off the market?

XP is still available on CL, just make sure it comes with a valid COA....;)
