jc since we are both immigrants, it is my duty to tell you, you need to relax more. Life too short.

I can't help the lefties are afraid of their racist past. Racism, social engineering at the point of a gun, eugenics, communism all lefty experiments.

It seems inevitable that there is going to be some sort of violent clash…I don’t think it will be between 2 traditional armies fighting on the battle field. I expect it will be more like Northern Ireland during “the troubles”…

…or maybe like Terry Gilliam’s vision of the future in the film Brazil?

With all due respect, i will strongly disagree. Read Ron Chernow's biography of him. Grant was trashed in history by the same "lost cause" writers because he enforced reconstruction and rights for blacks, and he crushed the KKK. The lost cause people portrayed Lee as this gentlemanly brilliant strategist, and Grant as a bumbling alcoholic butcher. False of both counts. He wasnt perfect, but was a lot better than he was portrayed 100 years ago.
Until near the end of the 20th century Grant was ranked by
historians at near the bottom of past POTUS. It was between
Grant and Warren Harding who had a shot at the worst presidents
of all time. And the designation of Grant's presidency as a failure
had nothing to do with his war record, alcoholism and General Lee's
image. It was only in the last 2 or 3 decades when Grant's ranking
has been improving thanks to revisionists.

That was due to corruption and the Tea Pot Dome scandal. I don't think any of that has gone away. Trends come and go in historiography, but Grant was a mediocre 1-term president. I'm not aware of "revisionists" changing that.

OTOH he was a pretty good general.

Words of wisdom from one of the worst POTUS in history.
Still words of wisdom, O&G.

USG's inability to control corruption and poor optics during his presidency have nothing to do with the man's high intelligence.

Unless your suggesting that your fave presidents - GWB, Ronald Reagan and DJT - could have done better at defeating the CSA? In which case, I'm happy to go through the last year of the Civil War with you.

Grant was a pretty shitty president and was a really good not-president.
Carter is similar. (Shitty president - wonderful ex-president.)

JC, didn't we have a chat about your silly Stalin obsession a few months ago?

You kept it in mind and stopped referring to purges and Gulags for several weeks and tried to talk about things that were, err... recent. But now the bad habits have returned.

As far as I know civil war was not a battle dems against gop but north againts confederate south. gop was back then nothing like today. Today the gop and confederate are slowly blending together...
Obviously more complex than that but there sure is a similarity between the confederacy convincing poor dirt farmers to fight so the rich can keep slaves and what's happening in the GOP now.

It's not my fault that leftists hold the record for murder and slavery and there ain't carpet big enough to sweep it under.

You have to move on from the 1930's. This is the 2020's.

They're not the same. Just because various state and provincial governments have mask mandates doesn't mean that they're going to set up gulags next Tuesday. I'm going to start ignoring your posts because they're so silly.

The MAGA crowd are Republicans as was the Union. The rebels were Democrats and still are judging by how they treat the poor black people.
LOL. This old argument. OK, let's go down this road again. Yes, Republicans were the ones who fought against slavery and black rights....up until the late 1950s. Then the Democrats started to do that...resulting in a massive switch of both party's stances. While there were Dixie-crats and what not, they switched to become GOP members, especially in the south. So, today, it's the Democrats who are for black rights while the GOP cling to white supremacy.... And don't for a second pretend the GOP cares about black people. They go out of their way to disenfranchise them or repress them in some fashion. So, fuck that shit.

Well, the Chinese lefties were mass murdering into 70s and so were the Cambodian progressives. Inconvenient memories?
