No. The fact is they have a ton of money wrapped up in four players and Wells will have to stay at a discounted rate. If he was outspoken in his desire to stay in Toronto then I could see that happening but he's been pretty blah and on the fence about it so far.

They can "sing" about Wells all they want once he is gone. Now if they "re-sign" him, well that's another story.

I couldn't resist. :D

And then I go make a spelling mistake too. Lol.

Wells will be moved this off season. I don't doubt that. I think there are going to a few changes actually.

I believe the Jays have a shot.

Wells has not come out and said that he would not sign an extension. He has not requested a trade.

The Jays have said that they will get together this offseason and discuss the matter with Vernon and his agent. Like most of you, I believe if the talks don't lead to Wells' signature on a contract extension, the Jays will shop him around. With one season still left on his current contract, they should be able to get back some good value (i.e. proven major league talent or top-notch prospects or both) should Wells decide not to stay.

The Jays will never have the kind of budget that the Yanks and Red Soxs have. So to win the AL East will remain a big challenge every year. I don't think Wells would've signed his previous 5-year contract with the Jays if he didn't like it here. Everyone knows of his friendship with Michael Young and his Texas background.

This guy is a tremendous player. He brings offence and defence. He deserves the kind of big money that Halladay, Burnett, Ryan and Glaus get.

I'd say it's 50/50 whether he stays or not.

With all things about ownership being considered, the sad part is that they could and should.

then the question is "what can we get in exchange for Wells?"
Roy Oswalt.

His name has been thrown around during the trade deadline and i won't be suprised if there is a possibility of a Wells for Oswalt deal. Someone was telling me during a segment on Fan590 sources from the players agent has suggested Wells will not resign with the Jays.

Jays will free up some cap room when Lilly, Zaun and possibly Molina all leave so we could see some big namer come into town.

I think sending Hinske to the Red Sox was a bad mistake, he'll come back to haunt us.

Roy Oswalt? Seriously? He made 11 million in 2006. His agent is looking for a 5 year $75 million deal. I believe Oswalt has 2 more years of arbitration ahead of him. After this years arbitration he'll be making as much ormore than Halladay. Can't see him coming to Toronto for Wells alone either.

As I stated before, I wish Oswalt even for 2 seasons for Wells and others (Chacin and Janssen?) was a possibility. If the Jays want to get into the playoffs they have to improve the pitching. Halladay, Oswalt and Burnett would be scary.

I heard Zito's name is out there as well.........JP came from Oakland maybe he could bring the lefty here
Barry Zito's agent is Scott Boras. I think the Jays are one of the teams that unofficially avoid dealing with Boras. There is nobody on the Jays currently that has Boras their agent.
Zito's up for a big raise this winter too. Imagine Zito pitching a day game at Fenway. Batters trying to pick up that curveball coming out of the afternoon sun. The BoSox should be interested in picking up this UFA.
