on your girlfriend
Why the fark can't I fall asleep at night. I've had insomnia for about 15 years now. I average 2-3 hours a night, maybe once a month I get 4 hours or so. I'm tired all the time, but I can't sleep. Yes, I've seen a doctor, and yes I have tried drugs, which I did not like because after I woke up 3 hours later I felt twice as shitty all day. Am I alone?

I don't have insomnia but from time to time my schedule gets screwed and I find myself sleeping when I should be awake and awake when I should be asleep. I find that skipping sleep -- staying up through an entire sleep cycle straightens me out.

Have you tried 'Lorazepam'? Its a mild sedative used to help you fall asleep. I've used it for years and it always works like a charm. Ask your Doctor about trying a prescription.

I would recommend half the dosage and not full. My old man was prescribed the stuff and sometimes would give me some. Full dosage (pill) I'd wake up cranky and groggy. Taking half was a lot better.
Also, try gravol, same effect, over the counter, costs less (especially if you buy the no name brand stuff). I still used it, I have problems going to bed and falling asleep. Thinking too much. Good luck.

Gravol works well if you aren't a regular user, but after three or four nights your body stops reacting. Jerking off or access to a girl really helps.

I've had insomnia on and off for as long as I can remember. I get it in stages for a couple weeks at a time then I have no problems for a while. When I keep a regular schedule of waking up and going to bed at the same time, it goes away. When I start messing around with my schedule, like staying up until 5 AM or 6AM for a couple nights in a row on the weekend, it comes back.

Benzodiazepines like Lorazepam (Ativan) and Diazepam (Valium) are good for the short term to get you back on a regular schedule, but they give you a buzz, are addictive and you start to rely on them to fall asleep. Gravol makes me feel like shit the next day. Imovane is probably the best, it puts you to sleep, gives you no buzz, isn't addictive and you don't get much of a hangover. Regardless, you shouldn't take any sleeping pills for more then a couple of weeks to help regulate your sleeping pattern.

Try Melatonin - you can get it in any health supplement store. Our bodies naturally produce melatonin, but produce less as we age.

It's helped me fall asleep many times & I never wake up feeling groggy. Don't take too much or you'll have weird dreams all night!

Is your mind racing reliving events of the day or planning the next day? It helps to empty my thoughts by mentally getting in rhythm with my breathing.
You might need to eliminate caffeine or alcohol completely, some people's bodies can't tolerate stimulants. Kate's melatonin suggestion is a good one.
See a doctor if it continues.
