Please Nottyboi how about showing us some examples of how much better other States have been over the milenia than the evil U.S.? France? Germany? Japan? the Soviet Union?

Have you ever seen The Mouse that Roared?
I watched that movie as a kid. At the time I thought it was
a satire poking fun on the U.S. foreign policy. From what I
remember the poor and tiny country in the movie invaded the
U.S. (with a primitive navy equipped with ancient weapons
like those used by the Vikings) after war proclamation with the
intention of receiving aid upon defeat.

Unlike Japan Iraq did not pearl harbour the U.S. Unlike Germany
Iraq did not declare war to the U.S. Before WWII Japan
had already invaded and occupied part of China and Nazi Germany
was rebuilding its army whereas Iraq was already disarmed
to a miserable state prior to the invasion.

The cowardly nature of the attack waged by the most
advanced military machine in history on a
non-threatening former ally only after having weakened it
by starvation and demilitarization is all too apparent. Somehow
the invasion in the future could be justified from the perspectives
of the neocons by anticipated future developments. The most desirable
outcome would be a stable world oil supply and that Iraq would
maintain a high enough oil production to mitigate peak oil. This
could buy time for the world to transition to the post oil
era. On top of that if Iraq indeed progresses to a democratic
country it could eventually play a stabilizing role in the middle east.

However the Iraq war will be judged by history I think
there is one thing missing in the calculations of those who
planned the war. However you slice it this war is a
war of aggression not one of defense. In a world of law and
order no civilized nation would invade another sovereign
country on false pretext without causing widespread hostility.
The U.S. has to be willfully naive to sell this war as a justifiable war
of liberation to the many Iraqi whose lives it ruined and that Iraq
will turn into a US-friendly ally some day.
The hatred of those Iraqi who absolutely hate George Bush
would one day come back to haunt the U.S. Remember
most of the 9/11 terrorists were nationals of U.S. allies.

About a year ago there was some discussion in this forum about how the war was really about pipelines for oil/natural gas. Any pipeline built through A-stan at this time & under these conditions will get blown more often than Ron Jeremy in his heyday. Same with getting these minerals out. And thus far, most of the contracts for resource development & trade have been awarded to Chinese firms by the incredibly corrupt Karzai gov't.
The promise of wealth isn't going to be a stabilizing factor here.......IMO probably just make the existing corruption & cronyism even worse, and the struggle for control over the area even more intense.

I think it's what ordinarily happens.

What you call "exploiting their resources" others would call "trade" and "development".
What you call "trade and development", we call the core exploiting the periphery. It's been done for thousands of years. The core uses it's military or political power to set up trade relations that always end up favouring them.

Surely you must be mistaken??

Wasn’t the plot that the U.S. invades poor innocent states that have never done anything to offend the international order, trashes them and then walks away without having made the slightest attempt at reconstruction while trying to take away as much in the way of natural resources that can be carted off from the midst of a battlefield.

Do you have any reason to believe Iraq is getting less of a share of the revenues than other jurisdictions?
Many no bid contracts awarded to Haliburten, non metered oil, there are a milliion ways to steal. In fact the use of oil revenues was supposed to be used to finance the war from the outset.

Who cares if they have not done better then the US, are you trying to make some sort of "least evil" of the colonists argument?

And there is the problem, you want to view the world through rose coloured glasses hoping someday see an angel rather than dealing with the realities of the world very tiny devils and huge devils. Most people are capable of seeing the difference between the types of devils.

Killing thousands and enslaving nations is hardly "tiny". When you look at all the countries that the US exploited during the cold war, vs the evil soviets...the ones under the soviets seemed somewhat better off. Apart from the aninmation and space travel, Avatar was pretty realistic.

This is one of the stupidest comments I've ever read. If defies belief.
